This is an incredible solid copper, vintage Fish Kettle that has been hand-made using the traditional way, hand raising the copper, and hammering into shape - this is a very special fish kettle. Made in the traditional way by Jean Paul Thevenot
It is solid copper and weighs 3.3 kilos over 7 lbs 7.4 ozs. It is heavy solid Copper throughout with a tin-lined insert. This is heavy and robust.
This has been totally refurbished and given a new tin lining on the body, lid and insert.
It is 50cm long or 19 3/4 inches, it is 18cm wide or 4 inches, and is 10cm high or 4 inches. The total length including handles is 54cm or 23 1/4 inches It is solid copper with a new hand wiped tin lining.
This is magnificently made with all you would expect from a fabulous French antique copper piece.
The snug insert enables the Chef to remove the cooked fish without damaging the fish itself. It is an ingenious thing that enables you to either poach or shallow steam a whole fish; a salmon, bass or any large fish you wish to cook. You can remove it as a whole and use the cooking liquor for your sauce.
It is a thing of beauty and really useful It is a necessity for a professional or well-equipped kitchen. This can be used to cook anything that needs steaming, poaching, or boiling not necessarily fish but also dumplings, suet puddings, ham, or vegetables. This is a versatile item that is lovely to look at.
It has surface scratches, especially on the base, there is wear from being in a French restaurant kitchen. The cast bronze handles look beautiful against the rich copper patina. This is an antique item - one of the first around to be made with a lid, so you can steam as well as poach. It has an iron ring on the rim to ensure a stiff, robust base, this is in excellent condition.
The tin has been cleaned and the copper polished.
The tin has slightly darkened throughout and all there, it is showing the swirls of hand wiped tin. The lid edge is slightly wavy. The exterior copper is slightly dulled from years of service.
This is an item for a serious Chef/ Cook and would thrive in a professional setting but I personally think that this item would look fantastic in a domestic kitchen as the copper 'sings', imagine it on a shelf in your kitchen - or opening a cupboard and there it is.
