The game recreates the two murders of the Berwick sisters in different ways. Players take on a different role in each case. In one case, one player takes on the role of the mastermind planning the murder, while the other player takes on the role of an investigator trying to solve the crime. The first investigator to correctly answer three crucial questions—who killed Beatrice or Berenice Berwick, how the killer killed her, and why—wins the game.

During their turn, the investigator rolls the interrogation dice and places the results on the game board to determine what information they want from their rival, the mastermind. They can interrogate suspects, scrutinize the housekeeping staff, inspect the crime scene, search the Berwick Manor for clues, or consult the police reports. The mastermind then reveals the requested information. With these new clues, the investigator can draw conclusions and further unravel the case.
