Die in der Graphischen Sammlung der Staatsgalerie Stuttgart verwahrten Blätter berühmter Künstler des 18. Jahrhunderts aus Italien, Frankreich und Deutschland, darunter Carlo Carlone, Leopoldo Retti, Philippe de La Guêpière, Jean Girardet, Johann Georg Bergmüller und Matthäus Günther, zeugen noch heute von der hohen Qualität der damals in den Residenzen Ludwigsburg und Stuttgart in Auftrag gegebenen Kunstwerke. Rund zweihundert Zeichnungen und Druckgrafiken aus dem umfangreichen Bestand des Museums, darunter einige Neuentdeckungen und Zuschreibungen, dokumentiert der vorliegende Band. Einen weiteren wichtigen Schwerpunkt stellen Vorarbeiten zu Fresken von Nicolas Guibal dar, dessen Deckenbild Das Glück Württembergs (1759) im Stuttgarter Neuen Schloss 1944 den Bomben zum Opfer fiel. In besonderer Weise gewürdigt werden zudem Arbeiten der Kupferstecherschule von Johann Gotthard Müller sowie Vorlagenzeichnungen der Ludwigsburger Porzellanmanufaktur.
