Designed by Sheila Santos and Israel Cendrero (the duo known as Llama Dice, also the authors of The Red Cathedral ) and featuring atmospheric illustrations by Joan Guardiet, The White Castle: Matcha is the first expansion to The White Castle . This expansion includes a central game board expansion, a green bridge, five green dice, sixteen coins, twenty-six tiles, four personal boards, twenty geisha figures, and thirty-nine cards.

Just like in the base game, the goal is to accumulate as many influence points as possible by placing clan members in strategic locations throughout the castle. This expansion adds a fourth group of pawns to your personal inventory: the geishas, who are housed in the teahouse.

The tea ceremony is at the heart of Japanese culture and embodies fundamental values such as hospitality, respect, and Zen philosophy. It is believed that tea, imported from China in the 12th century, helped solve the health problems of Buddhist monks. Over the years, the ceremony evolved into a haven for samurai, far from battle. Master Sen no Rikyu played a key role in transforming the tea ceremony into a sign of status and later even a platform for cultural, religious, and political negotiations. Thus, the ritual is not only about hospitality but also about respect and political finesse.

Throughout the game, placing your clan members well in the Chashitsu (tea house) will grant you greater influence in the Himeji court. But that's not all: you also gain an additional action each round, increasing the total number of available actions in the game from nine to twelve.
