Das Bergvolk Akha baut in Höhenlagen   bis zu 1.500 m im Schatten von Obst- und Waldbäumen  unseren besonderen Pang Khon Kaffee an. Die vielen Bäume  und Sträucher auf der Plantage schützen das Land vor  Erosion und sorgen für einen Nährstoffaustausch zwischen  Erdreich und Oberfläche. Extensive Landwirtschaft und der  Einsatz von Chemikalien wird von der Regierung unterbunden,  damit die natürlichen Ressourcen der Region erhalten bleiben.  So gut wie jeder Einwohner des Dorfes hat mit Kaffee zu   tun. Zusammen bilden diese Familien eine Kooperative mit  dem Ziel, die dortigen Lebensbedingungen zu verbessern. Sie  ermöglicht den Bauern einen direkten Zugang zum internationalen Markt.

BESONDERHEITEN
Thailand ist unter den Kaffee produzierenden Ländern Asiens an dritter Stelle. Sein Robusta-Anteil liegt bei 99 %. Arabica-Kaffee wird im Norden Thailands angebaut. Die Kaffeeproduktion in der nördlichen Grenzregion zu Myamar und Laos (goldenes Dreieck) wurde von der thailändischen Königsfamilie ins Leben gerufen, um Opiumplantagen zu ersetzen. Arabica-Kaffee hat sich als gute Wahl erwiesen, da sein Anbau in dieser Region rentabel ist. Also auch eine gute Alternative für das Bergvolk der Hill Tribes.
