The Defector is the untold account of how, in 1971,

the defection of a KGB saboteur in London led to the expulsion of more than a hundred Soviet 'diplomats' from the UK.

Drawing on newly declassified intelligence documents and dozens of interviews with spymasters, The Defector tells a startling story of a Soviet mission to plant fake Kremlin agents within British and American intelligence services, the paranoia that ensued, and how the actions of a genuine turncoat, the former KGB officer Oleg Lyalin, and the secrets he revealed resulted to one of the most dramatic and pivotal moments in the Cold War. Lyalin led MI5 to rethink its relationship with the CIA. And his defection discredited a previous KGB

defector, Anatoly Golitsyn, the darling of the CIA, and ultimately destroyed the reputation of the US agency's head of counterintelligence, James Jesus Angleton. As Richard Kerbaj writes: 'There was a poetic irony in Golitsyn's loss of credibility. It came, as he had previously

feared, at the hands of a KGB defector. Except Oleg Lyalin had not been sent by the KGB - he was running away from it.'At the heart of Lyalin's story is a narrative entwined with lies, disinformation, Kremlin deception campaigns,

intelligence failures by the CIA and MI5, and a tangled love life. Told in full here, for the first time, by one of this country's leading commentators on national security, it reveals how during the darkest moments of the Cold

War one of the West's greatest achievements transpired as a result of MI5's break with the CIA.

The disclosure of the inside story of this historic event also comes at a time when there is a renewed interest in

the relationship between transatlantic spy services - from the intelligence they share or hold back, to the way they respond to their political masters and stand up to threats from Russia.

Very practical and so far its working great.
This outlet extender is super practical! I installed it just behind a night stand to extend the outlet above it. The built in USB C ports can fast charge a Samsung S25 on a MagSafe base, so they are at least good for 15W. The outlet came disassembled and very well packed. There are 3 extensions included to change the reach of the outlet, but for a nightstand, a single extension was all that is needed. The outlets on the extender are nice and tight and like mentioned before, the USB ports work well and are very convenient to have. There is also an On/Off switch at the top of the extender you can use to turn off all the devices connected to it. Overall a great kit, that seems well made and should hopefully last a long time. So far I can recommend it.

Finally, a smart solution for that impossible outlet behind the couch
I have one specific outlet in my living room that drives me absolutely crazy. It’s directly behind our heavy sectional sofa, and every time I need to plug in a laptop charger or the vacuum, I have to literally wrestle the furniture away from the wall and blindly reach down into the dark. When I saw this TROND extendable outlet stick, I bought it immediately hoping it would solve that exact headache. It totally did. The design is brilliant. It’s modular, so you can adjust the length anywhere from 16 to 39 inches depending on how many segments you screw together. I used all three pieces so the actual power strip sits right at the perfect height just above the back of the couch. Now I have five outlets and two USB-C ports right where I can actually reach them. The USB-C ports charge my phone quickly, and having built-in surge protection gives me peace of mind for my electronics. Plus, the 360-degree rotating plug lies completely flat, so the couch can push all the way back against the wall without bending any cords. I did run into one quirky issue when installing it, which I took a couple of photos of to show you. In the US, our wall outlets are usually installed with the round ground prong on the bottom. However, the plug on this device is oriented with the ground prong on the top. If you plug it into a standard outlet, the cord wants to run upwards instead of down. Fortunately, it’s an incredibly easy DIY fix. I just went to my breaker box, shut off the power to the living room, unscrewed the wall outlet, flipped it upside down so the ground prong was on top, and screwed it back in. It took less than five minutes and completely solved the problem. Even with that minor orientation quirk, this thing is a total game-changer for awkward living room layouts. If you're tired of scraping your knuckles trying to reach behind furniture, this is worth every penny.

Perfect kitchen wall outlet
Size: 3 FT, Size: 3 FT
This is the perfect solution for a kitchen wall outlet that is plugged into the unused second socket behind the refrigerator. Now I can leave my blender and food processor on the small countertop next to my refrigerator. So convenient! And also a good spot to charge my cell phone.

Perfect for hard to reach outlets
Size: 3 FT, Size: 3 FT
The quality of the outlet is good. Functions perfectly has two Usb 2.0 ports and one Usb C port. Charges as normal chargers do. It is easy to use and worth the cost. The tapes for the clips doesn’t work on cement walls so I recommend using the https://amzn.to/4hoc2Qe with what I always use to adhere to cement walls.
