African American Performance and Theater History is an anthology of critical writings that explores the intersections of race, theater, and performance in America. Assembled by two esteemed scholars in black theater, Harry J. Elam, Jr. and David Krasner, and composed of essays from acknowledged authorities in the field, this anthology is organized into four sections representative of the ways black theater, drama, and performance interact and enact continual social, cultural, and political dialogues.

Ranging from a discussion of dramatic performances of Uncle Tom's Cabin to the Black Art Movement of the 1960s and early 1970s, articles gathered in the first section, "Social Protest and the Politics of Representation," discuss the ways in which African American theater and performance have operated as social weapons and tools of protest. The second section of the volume, "Cultural Traditions, Cultural Memory and Performance," features, among other essays, Joseph Roach's chronicle of the slave performances at Congo Square in New Orleans and Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s critique of August Wilson's cultural polemics. "Intersections of Race and Gender," the third section, includes analyses of the intersections of race and gender on the minstrel stage, the plight of black female choreographers at the inception of Modern Dance, and contemporary representations of black homosexuality by PomoAfro Homo. Using theories of performance and performativity, articles in the fourth section, "African American Performativity and the Performance of Race," probe into the ways blackness and racial identity have been constructed in and through performance. The final section is a round-table assessment of the past and present state of African American Theater and Performance Studies by some of the leading senior scholars in the field--James V. Hatch, Sandra L. Richards, and Margaret B. Wilkerson.

Revealing the dynamic relationship between race and theater, this volume illustrates how the social and historical contexts of production critically affect theatrical performances of blackness and their meanings and, at the same time, how African American cultural, social, and political struggles have been profoundly affected by theatrical representations and performances. This one-volume collection is sure to become an important reference for those studying black theater and an engrossing survey for all readers of African American literature.

Very Different, But Works Well
This is built much different than the others. It has a foam seal around the edges. The filter portion is standard, but the carbon activated material is a setoff beads suspended between a screen a honeycomb structure. There is air freshener built-in to help with the smell in the car. Fits well in my 2015 RAV4. Just as easy to install as any other filter. The price is on the high side so with this one I am hoping to get at least one year of use from it.

Well-Made Carbon Cabin FIlter
I love the honeycomb carbon filter on this cabin filter. It looks like it will do an excellent job cleaning the air in my car. It came in a cardboard box and was easy to install and fit my Toyota well. I would have appreciated some arrows on it, like other filters come with, to let me know I was inserting it correctly. I just followed the example of the one already in my car. If you accidentally take that one out first, you may not remember which side goes where. So, my improvement would be arrows on the filter itself. Otherwise, the airflow seems great, it functions well and seems to be a great quality!

Use activated carbon to clean the air naturally!
This is a serious air filter with activated carbon inside of it and I'm here for it. I use little activated carbon bags in my car already as an air freshener because I hate those fake chemical scents from the little trees or from the car wash. The chemicals in those fake scents give me migraines. I absolutely love the idea of putting the active carbon in the cabin air filter itself to clean the air. This fits prefecture in my 2017 toyota prius v. It was just a easy to install as any purge cabin air filter. The hardest part is opening all the parts of the glove box to get the old one out. This filter seems sturdier than my last one and it's a good value for the money.

Perfect fit for 2016 Corolla!
Fit's my 2016 Corolla perfect. Has a sturdy frame. Other name brand ones I have purchased before don't have the sturdy frame and squish up. This comes with tiny fragrant beads on the top part and has a light fresh scent when the air is on. Very happy so far.

Best cabin filter I've ever seen
This is the most complex and over-engineered cabin air filter I have ever seen, and I mean that in a good way! The overall shell is a hard plastic, and inside it are two basic parts; the filter (HEPA quality) and the loose fill activated charcoal. The filter media appears to be operating room quality, and if I were to guess, I would say it's like a MERV 14 or greater. The pleats are plentiful, and the spacing of the pleats are perfect, as well as the attachment of the media to the filter frame. The charcoal is a loose style fill, and it fits between the back of the filter media and the filter screen on the very back. This must have 5 times the amount of charcoal compared to the charcoal infused media you can get from many suppliers. The frame fits perfect in my 4runner, and it is hard plastic with good gasket material to further help the effectiveness of the media. All in all, this is an incredibly engineered filter, and if you're the type that wants nothing but the best for your vehicle, you've come to the right place by choosing this one. It is pricey, at $20 for one filter at the time of writing this review, but this is a textbook case of "you get what you pay for." I am going to start only buying these from now on, as they are the best quality and construction filter I have seen, and I highly recommend this filter!
