The Biblical Case for Polygamy: The Bible Texts - Volume 1Polygyny is no longer a fringe question people can pretend does not exist. As the subject gains attention both in the culture and in religious discussion, The Biblical Case for Polygamy asks whether the common Christian rejection of it is truly based on Scripture or on inherited Catholic tradition. Polygyny is no longer a fringe question people can pretend does not exist. As the subject gains attention both in the culture and in religious discussion, The Biblical Case for Polygamy asks whether the common Christian rejection of it is truly based on Scripture or on inherited Catholic tradition.

For generations, Christians have been taught that monogamy is the only biblical model for marriage. That belief is usually presented as settled truth. But when the text itself is examined closely, the case is not nearly as simple as many have been led to believe.

This book takes readers into one of the most controversial and least honestly examined subjects in biblical discussion. Focusing specifically on polygyny, one man with multiple wives, it explores whether Scripture actually condemns the practice, or whether later religious tradition has spoken more loudly than the Bible itself.

Inside this book, you will examine:

  • the historical and cultural world in which the Bible was written
  • the marriages of Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and over 32 other biblical figures
  • Mosaic laws that regulate households involving more than one wife
  • the difference between what Scripture records, permits, regulates, and forbids
  • rebuttal to the arguments commonly used against polygyny in modern Christian teaching
  • New Testament passages often cited against plural marriage
  • whether the rejection of polygyny is truly biblical, or largely traditional

This is not a shallow defense of lust, nor is it an attempt to stir controversy for its own sake. It is a serious challenge to a deeply protected assumption. Rather than leaning on slogans, emotional reactions, or church tradition, The Biblical Case for Polygamy goes back to the text and asks readers to deal honestly with what is actually there.

The result is a direct and thought-provoking study that will challenge both critics and supporters of polygyny. Whether you agree with its conclusions or not, this book will force you to confront an uncomfortable question: has the church condemned something that the Bible itself never clearly condemns?

If you are willing to question inherited assumptions, examine Scripture in context, and follow the evidence where it leads, The Biblical Case for Polygamy will give you a perspective most readers have never been allowed to consider.

Nice quality ESV 2 column Bible
Format: Leather Bound
Nice soft cover. It is smaller than the hardcover ESV journaling bible I have, which isn't necessarily a problem. This is also a two column bible. The font is 7pt, so it is fairly small. It's also fairly squarish at about 6.5x7.5inches. The strap comes separate, which is nice because if you don't want to have to tie and untie your Bible every time you want to open it, you can just leave it off. There is only one ribbon, but I honestly tend to use bookmarks more than ribbons anyway. There is also a pen loop inside to hold a normal-sized pen (probably won't fit a large one) Content - Ownership page - not dedication, just this Bible belongs to - An invitation to the journaling Bible - Copyright page - printed in China, 2001 version - Contents - Why Read the Bible - 1 page - What the Bible Says About - 5.5 pages giving scripture references for various topics - Preface - Standard ESV Preface - Explanation of Features - short 1-page note about things like textual footnotes and cross-reference footnotes - The Old Testament - 2 page introduction followed by the text - The New Testament - 2 page introduction followed by the text - Plan of Salvation - just over 3 pages - Introductions to the Books of the Old Testament - It seems weird that they are at the end and not with the actual books. There are about 5 introductions per page, so they are really short - Introductions to the Books of the New Testament - Same note as above. Is it really an introduction if it is at the end? - Through the Bible in a Year Reading Plan - Daily dated reading plan that includes OT, Psalms, and NT each day. It will have you read through the OT once, Psalms twice, and NT twice

Works great, easy to assemble.
Size: 2 Tier-9.5''Wx10.5''Dx9.5''H
I bought this to try and contain our cabinet clutter. It works really well. Was easy to assemble. I use it on the countertop instead of inside of the cabinets. Looks nice enough to sit out. Will buy 1 more in the coming days. The storage areas pull out, makes for easy access.

Awesome Spice Rack!
Size: 2 Tier-13.5''Wx10.5''Dx9.5''H
This works perfectly. I bought two as I have a lot of spices. Do need to remember that the height needed for unit is 9 inches, but with full size spice jars on top rack, you need at least 11 inches. Otherwise it works great. Smooth movement of the drawers. Very sturdy and stable.

A good value, works well.
Size: 1 Tier-8.5''Wx10.5''Dx2.5''H, Size: 1 Tier-8.5''Wx10.5''Dx2.5''H
It works great, and a good value for the price. Super easy to install, comes with a template (you probably wont need), screws and a screw driver. Easy peasy It will not affect the performance, but it is a little flimsy. Great service and price. Quality packaged as well.
