The remarkable true story of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, and the two men in war-torn Japan whose lives he changed forever.

On the 14th of August 1941, a Polish priest named Maximilian Maria Kolbe was murdered in Auschwitz.

Kolbe's life had been remarkable. Fiercely intelligent and driven, he founded a movement of Catholicism and spent several years in Nagasaki, ministering to the 'hidden Christians' who had emerged after centuries of oppression. A Polish nationalist as well as a priest, he gave sanctuary to fleeing refugees and ran Poland's largest publishing operation, drawing the wrath of the Nazis. His death was no less remarkable: he volunteered to die, saving the life of a fellow prisoner.

It was an act that profoundly transformed the lives of two Japanese men. Tomei Ozaki was just seventeen when the US dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, destroying his home and his family. Masatoshi Asari worked on a farm in Hokkaido during the war and was haunted by the inhumane treatment of prisoners in a nearby camp. Forged in the crucible of an unforgiving war, both men drew inspiration from Kolbe's sacrifice, dedicating their lives to humanity and justice. Ozaki followed in his footsteps and became a friar. Asari created cherry trees as peace offerings.

In The Martyr and the Red Kimono, award-winning author Naoko Abe weaves together a deeply moving and inspirational true story of resistance, sacrifice, guilt and atonement.

Great socks
Color: Black/Assorted, Size: 6-10
These socks lasted me a while and are comfortable and don't ride down like some of my others as much

Will last a good while despite not being overly thick.
Color: Black/Assorted, Size: 6-10
I purchased these socks about 14 months ago and I use them regularly with maybe five other pairs of socks made by a different brand. No holes so far. I used to buy Hanes and they barely lasted a week before I had to throw a pair of them out. I still use all six of these socks (assuming I can find them!) I often walk outside on my cement patio or tiptoe through the grass in socks so I am a little tough on them I guess you could say. I'm also very active. I don't exercise at a gym and thus don't use them in tennis shoes but walk most of the day when at home. I run around in my yard doing yard work and gardening. I also have worn them regularly at work while walking around in my steel toed shoes (which rub) and they somehow lived through that. They still look fine: no discoloration or weak spots in the heel which is usually the first sign of wear for me. They are comfortable too. I don't feel any line at the toes and they don't rub or fit too tight in any way. I love the height of these, they are so short that they slip down in your shoe but not overly tall (I don't like the look and feel of tall socks). They are also lightweight and very breathable. So great quality for the price. I'd recommend and I will likely buy the same brand in the future.

Excellent, sturdy socks
Color: White/Assorted, Size: 6-10
These socks are a little pricey, but they're thick and well-made. I also love the little pops of color on top. I got a set at a local sports store and was so impressed that I immediately got another off Amazon. Two years later, I still have all twelve pairs, and they're as comfy and good-looking as they were on day one. The cheaper socks I bought previously have become thin, cold, and holey.

Pretty good
Color: Rebel Pink Assorted Locked-in Fit, Size: Medium
Quality seems good, but different colors seem to be different sizes. The whitish ones fit fine, but the colored ones seem a tad shorter.

soft, comfortable, stretchy
Color: Black/Pink Assorted Locked-in Fit, Size: Medium
Seems like some high quality, lightweight socks. Very pleased with my purchase. They are very soft, they fit just right, and the material is somewhat stretchy.
