AT33xMONO/II

The latest update to the venerable AT33 Series – the first extensive overhaul in years – brings new warmth and fullness to your favorite music. Incorporating technological and material improvements, including our first use of die-cast zinc at the base of the cartridge to ward off unwanted resonance and improve expressiveness in the mid to low frequencies, the AT33x Series cartridges let you hear the finest details across the audio spectrum.

The AT33xMONO/II features a “True Mono” dual moving coil design that is unaffected by any vertical noise components picked up from the record groove, instead generating electrical signal only from horizontal movement. This results in exceptionally clear monaural sound with a more substantial low end and reduced surface noise. The dual mono coil design is also ideal for mono playback on a stereo system.

To further enhance its monaural performance, the cartridge is equipped with a 0.65 mil conical nude stylus, which is perfect for tracking the constant width and depth of mono record grooves. Our newly developed suspension mechanism uses piano wire for even better tracking accuracy, lowering the dynamic compliance slightly for more substantial audio, particularly in the mid-low range.

The cartridge’s composite body, made of die-cast zinc, aluminum, and high-rigidity polymer, reduces and disperses resonance across the entire body, resulting in balanced, natural sound reproduction that doesn’t favor particular frequencies. PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) coils ensure pure, smooth signal transmission, while the samarium cobalt magnet and pure iron yoke (shaped for optimal monaural sound reproduction) provide highly efficient power generation and warm, richly textured playback that is particularly suitable for mid-20th-century mono jazz recordings.

Like all AT33x Series cartridges, the body of the AT33xMONO/II includes threaded holes for easy mounting (just two screws required). These threaded holes are especially useful when mounting the cartridge to an integrated tonearm.

Please Note: AT33xMONO/II’s stylus assembly is not field-replaceable, but Audio-Technica offers a fee-based Moving Coil Exchange Program to properly service your moving coil cartridge.

Features

  • AT33x Series dual moving coil monaural cartridge with 0.65 mil conical nude stylus

  • Preserves the warmth and fullness of acoustic instruments, such as those captured on mono jazz recordings from the 1950s and ’60s

  • “True Mono” dual moving coil design only generates electrical signal with horizontal movement for exceptionally clear monaural sound with a more substantial low end and reduced surface noise

  • PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) coils provide pure, smooth signal transmission

  • Samarium cobalt magnet and pure iron yoke (shaped for optimal monaural sound reproduction) provide highly efficient power generation and warm, richly textured playback

  • Composite cartridge body (die-cast zinc, aluminum, and high-rigidity polymer) reduces resonance throughout the body for balanced, natural sound reproduction

  • Highly rigid and dense die-cast zinc material is used at the base of the cartridge to suppress unwanted vibrations and improve the expressiveness of the mid-to-low frequency range

  • Threaded mounting holes make it easier to mount the cartridge to a headshell, especially one integrated into a tonearm

  • 0.65 mil conical nude stylus tracks the center of the record groove for reliable performance and excellent fidelity

  • High-hardness duralumin pipe cantilever

  • Newly developed suspension mechanism and rubber damper design (with lower dynamic compliance than other A-T cartridges) enable the cartridge to be used with a variety of tonearms

  • Thick gold plating on the terminal pins reduces contact resistance and enhances sound quality

  • Crafted and hand-finished by artisans in Japan

Please Note: AT33xMONO/II’s stylus assembly is not field-replaceable, but Audio-Technica offers a fee-based Moving Coil Exchange Program to properly service your moving coil cartridge.

I love VSI on Kindle
Format: eTextbook
The thing is they take a long time to read because of the look up feature. It's like reading a book in the Library of Congress.

There are few who are capable of telling the story ...
Format: Paperback
There are few who are capable of telling the story of plate techtonics including critical details. Peter Molnar is one of those chosen few who can deliver such a story succinctly and precisely.

Very nice, but very short, book on the subject.
Format: Paperback
This is a very nice, but very short, book on the subject. I learned quite a bit and enough to delve into structural geology and related subjects.

Excellent 120 pages book on a complex subject.
Format: Paperback
I thought this was an excellent 120 pages book on a complex subject. It discusses a variety of subjects besides the title of plate tectonics and which are related to it: continental drift, oceanic seafloor spreading, fracture zones, subduction of tectonic plate edges, faulting, the creation of mountains and plateaus, earthquakes, volcanism, oceanic magnetic anomalies, and the locations of concentrated metallic ores. The text is accompanied by almost 40 sketches and diagrams elaborating on the discussions provided in the text. The book also introduces the grand concepts of Earth geology such as the mantle, lithosphere, and asthenosphere. It also provides a short history of the development of the concept of plate tectonics. Finally, the book provides specific detailed descriptions of the formation of major mountain ranges and plateaus such as the Himalayas, the Tibetan Plateau, Tien Shan, the Tarim Basin, the movement of Eastern Asia, the Andes, and the western US mountain ranges. It also gives a short description of the movement of India from the eastern edge of the African Plate to the Eurasian Plate over the past 90+ million years.

Books like this have to be leavened with a human dimension ...
Format: Paperback
This book is too technical for people who are new to the subject of plate tectonics. In fact, I think it is fair to say that if you can understand this book you don't need to read it but if you need to read it you won't understand it. Books like this have to be leavened with a human dimension in the form of stories about people. This book has such stories but they are very brief and tend to get burried under the tecnical detail. There are other books in the "A Very Short Introduction" series which give far more accessible introductions to plate tectonic (e.g. "Earth Science: A Very Short Introduction"). I would suggest that anyone who was entirely new to the subject should read one of them instead.
