Priced "$4.95" to jacket front flap and states "New American Library" to title and copyright pages but NOT to bottom of jacket spine, where true first editions generally identify the publisher in red ink. Furthermore, while true first editions generally show black spine cloth over blue boards, this volume is bound in a red "composition" material. And while the jacket front panel illustration of the space station looks reasonably authentic, the illustration to jacket REAR panel (of actor Keir Dullea from the film) is in a fairly grainy B&W. NO book-club coding near the spine to any of the final text pages. Also NO printing found in Chinese characters, but we suspect this is an early piracy, possibly from Taiwan.
