Fun Fact #1: Did you know that around 20 million cattle were herded from Texas to Kansas between 1866 to 1886? A single herd of cattle (about 3,000) needed 10 cowboys with 3 horses per cowboy. The depiction of cattle drives in films made the cowboy an icon of the American West.

Fun Fact #2: Cowboys lived by an unwritten code with rules such as always saying “howdy”, helping someone in need, and never riding another man’s horse without permission.

Fun Fact #3: Did you know that cowboys had their own slang? For example, biscuits were referred to as “hot rocks”, coffee was called “brown gargle”, and “splatter dabs” for pancakes.
