Historical Context: The Era of Impressionism and Degas' Influence
The Rise of Impressionism: A New Artistic Movement
The late 19th century marked a revolutionary shift in the art world with the emergence of Impressionism. This movement broke away from traditional techniques, focusing on capturing light and everyday moments. Artists like Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir paved the way, but Edgar Degas brought a unique perspective, emphasizing movement and the human figure.Edgar Degas: A Pioneer of Modern Art
Edgar Degas, born in 1834, is often celebrated as one of the founders of Impressionism. However, he preferred to be called a realist. His innovative approach combined traditional techniques with modern themes, making him a pivotal figure in the transition to contemporary art. Degas' fascination with ballet dancers and women in everyday life is evident in his works, including the captivating "Portrait of a Young Woman."Portraiture in the 19th Century: A Shift in Perspective
During the 19th century, portraiture evolved significantly. Artists began to explore the psychological depth of their subjects rather than merely depicting their physical likeness. Degas' "Portrait of a Young Woman" exemplifies this shift, showcasing not just the beauty of the young woman but also her inner world and emotional state.Unveiling the Subject: The Young Woman in Degas' Masterpiece
Symbolism of Femininity: The Representation of Women in Art
In "Portrait of a Young Woman," Degas captures the essence of femininity. The young woman embodies grace and poise, reflecting the societal ideals of beauty during the Impressionist era. Her portrayal invites viewers to consider the complexities of womanhood and the roles women played in society.Fashion and Identity: The Young Woman's Attire and Its Significance
The young woman's attire in the painting is not just a fashion statement; it represents her identity and social status. The delicate fabrics and intricate details of her dress highlight the elegance of the time. This attention to fashion also serves as a commentary on the expectations placed on women in the 19th century.Emotional Depth: Capturing the Essence of Youth and Innocence
Degas masterfully conveys the emotional depth of youth in this portrait. The young woman's expression, a blend of contemplation and innocence, resonates with viewers. This emotional connection is a hallmark of Degas' work, inviting audiences to reflect on their own experiences of youth and vulnerability.Artistic Techniques: Degas' Unique Approach to Oil Painting
Brushwork and Color Palette: A Study in Light and Shadow
Degas employed a distinctive brushwork technique that creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. His color palette, rich with warm tones, enhances the three-dimensional quality of the portrait. This technique draws the viewer's eye and adds depth to the composition.Composition and Perspective: The Arrangement of Elements
The composition of "Portrait of a Young Woman" is carefully crafted. Degas uses diagonal lines and asymmetrical balance to create a sense of movement. This arrangement invites viewers to engage with the painting, exploring the relationship between the subject and her surroundings.Innovative Use of Pastels: Blending Techniques in Oil Painting
Degas was known for his innovative use of pastels, often blending them with oil paints. This technique adds a unique texture and vibrancy to his works. In "Portrait of a Young Woman," the soft pastels enhance the delicate features of the subject, making her appear almost lifelike.Comparative Analysis: Degas vs. Bacchiacca
Influences of Renaissance Art on Degas' Work
Degas drew inspiration from Renaissance artists like Bacchiacca, known for his detailed and vibrant portraits. While Bacchiacca focused on realism, Degas infused his work with Impressionist elements, creating a bridge between the two styles.Contrasting Styles: Realism vs. Impressionism
Bacchiacca's realism contrasts sharply with Degas' Impressionism. While Bacchiacca aimed for meticulous detail, Degas sought to capture fleeting moments and emotions. This contrast highlights the evolution of artistic expression from the Renaissance to the Impressionist era.Legacy of Bacchiacca: How His Work Inspired Degas
Bacchiacca's legacy influenced many artists, including Degas. The attention to detail and the portrayal of human emotion in Bacchiacca's work can be seen in Degas' portraits. Cute little butterflies!
Color: 10.Oct(Pink Tourmaline), Color: 10.Oct(Pink Tourmaline)
I got these for my daughter who just recently got her ears pierced for the first time. Since she is so young, I decided to try them first to see how well they handle.
First, I was very impressed that they included plastic and metal backs. There’s also a nice little baggie to put the earrings in when they’re not in use.
Second, my ears are very sensitive, which was a concern with wearing these, but after a few hours, they seemed to be fine still. Usually, after a few hours, I have to take earrings out. I could have worn these for longer and been OK.
Last they are super cute! They match the description and color perfectly! I was very impressed. I could definitely see myself buying another pair. The earrings were also very good size not too big and not too small. Perfect for adult or child.

Beautiful very colorful and comfortable
Color: 02.Feb(Amethyst)
These really are so cute--the purple color of the butterfly really stands out and when I'm wearing them, I can't even tell that I have them on.

Perfect. A must have!
Size: XX-Large, Color: Nude
Perfect fit! After 2 battles with breast cancer and breast reconstruction I find it very difficult to find strapless or any bra for that matter that fit and are comfortable … this bra not only fits it stays put! I have purchased some pricey ones in the past but this gives a lot of bang for your buck. I also love the fact it stays in place- has rubber like adhesive that sticks to your skin and has no wires. I feel mangled after basically being amputated by a double mastectomy- I worry about the bra falling down exposing the fact I have no “nips” because cancer took all that away from me. Additionally, I like that it comes with removable straps for adjustability for extra support if needed. The quality seems to be good but I have yet to wash, just like any bra - gentle cycle wash and a flat air dry will extend the life of the bra.

Doesn't slip down
Size: XX-Large, Color: Black
Holds up very well for day to day work and doesn't slip down. Came with straps as well. Material feels great. I would base sizing off of your usual band size more than cup. Got a XXL when measured I'm usually a 38B or 36C and those sizes are too small to be comfortable and it said I'd match with a large so I went up based upon my bra experiences. Pink color isn't really a good pink tone more closer to nude and dull if anything. But all the other styles and colors are great. It feels very supportive and covers all the right places while smoothing out back rolls. It's a good stretch when you put it on to and then conforms to the chest. Pads are a little over the place but they're removable so that's expected.

An excellent strapless option
Size: XX-Large, Color: Nude
Extremely comfortable! It didn’t slip down like some do, so I don’t feel the need to tug it up. Felt like I wasn’t wearing anything at all. I also like that it comes with optional straps. Great coverage. The two things to watch for is the top seam is a little thick, so it won’t work under thin tops, and the pads will move around, but they are easy to adjust or remove. On the whole I find this a great fit and easy to wear, at an excellent price point.
