The Day-Light Elite is Carex's flagship light therapy lamp — building on the established Day-Light Sky and Classic Plus models with a larger viewing screen, four selectable brightness settings, and a refined adjustable stand. It delivers up to 10,000 LUX of full-spectrum white light at a comfortable 12–14 inch distance — the clinically recommended intensity for light therapy without requiring uncomfortably close positioning. Four brightness settings (10,000 / 5,000 / 2,500 / 1,000 LUX) allow new users to start at a lower intensity and gradually increase exposure, or allow continuing users to fine-tune their daily session intensity. The stand adjusts in height from 21" to 26" and in angle, and the lamp projects light downward from above as clinical guidelines recommend. 4000K color temperature provides a comfortable, soothing white light. 100% UV blocked. Corded electric power.

Key Features

  • 10,000 LUX at 12–14" — delivers the clinically recommended light intensity for bright light therapy at a comfortable working distance; many competing lamps require sitting much closer to reach the same intensity
  • Four brightness settings — 10,000, 5,000, 2,500, and 1,000 LUX selectable; allows new users to begin therapy at a lower intensity and build tolerance gradually, and allows any user to adjust intensity for time of day, session length, or personal sensitivity to bright light
  • Larger 15.75"×13" screen — Carex's largest light therapy lamp viewing area; a larger illuminated surface allows more natural head and eye movement during a session without losing light exposure, compared to smaller-screen lamps that require staying precisely positioned
  • Height adjustable 21"–26" — accommodates use while seated at a desk, dining table, or in a chair at different heights; positions the light at eye level or slightly above as recommended
  • Angle adjustable — fine-tunes the downward light angle for the user's specific seating position and distance
  • Projects light from above — downward-angled light delivery mimics natural outdoor light exposure and is the clinically recommended delivery angle for light therapy, as opposed to lamps that shine directly forward at eye level
  • 4000K color temperature — a comfortable, soothing white light tone that is bright without feeling harsh or clinical
  • Full-spectrum light, 450–675nm — covers the visible light wavelength range associated with circadian rhythm regulation and serotonin production support
  • 100% UV blocked — light therapy benefit without UV exposure risk; safe for daily long-term use
  • Flicker-free operation — consistent light output across all brightness settings without flicker that can cause eye strain or headache in light-sensitive users
  • Dual-purpose lighting — functions as both a therapy lamp and ambient task lighting when not in active therapy use
  • Classification: Clinical/Medical grade | Addresses severe light deprivation | By Carex Health Brands

Clinical FAQs

What is bright light therapy used for and how does the Day-Light Elite's 10,000 LUX compare to ordinary indoor lighting?

Bright light therapy is a well-established, evidence-based treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and is also used to support circadian rhythm regulation in non-seasonal depression, delayed sleep phase disorder, jet lag, and shift work sleep disruption. The mechanism involves exposing the eyes to high-intensity light, which suppresses melatonin production and shifts the timing of the body's internal clock, while also supporting serotonin pathways associated with mood regulation. For context on intensity: typical indoor home or office lighting measures approximately 200–500 LUX — far below the threshold needed for a therapeutic effect. Outdoor daylight on a clear day can exceed 10,000–25,000 LUX, even in shade. Clinical research establishing the effectiveness of light therapy for SAD has used light boxes delivering 10,000 LUX, which is why this has become the standard benchmark intensity for therapeutic light boxes — including the Day-Light Elite at its maximum setting. Simply being in a well-lit room does not replicate this effect; a dedicated therapy lamp delivering the clinically studied intensity is necessary to achieve the documented therapeutic benefit.

How should the Day-Light Elite be used for the best results, and how long does a typical session take?

Standard clinical protocol for bright light therapy involves sitting in front of the lamp for 20 to 30 minutes per session, typically in the morning shortly after waking, with the light source positioned 12 to 14 inches from the face and at or slightly above eye level — consistent with the Day-Light Elite's recommended distance and downward-angled, above-positioned light delivery. The user does not need to stare directly at the light; the lamp can be positioned to the side while reading, eating breakfast, working at a desk, or doing other activities, as long as the eyes receive indirect exposure to the light field. Morning use is generally recommended over evening use because morning light exposure helps advance the circadian rhythm, supporting earlier, more consistent wake times. Consistency matters more than any single session — daily use during the season or period when symptoms are present produces better results than occasional use. Most users who respond to light therapy notice improvement within one to two weeks of consistent daily use, though some notice effects sooner. The four brightness settings on the Day-Light Elite allow a new user to begin at a lower setting (1,000 or 2,500 LUX) for the first few days if the full 10,000 LUX feels too intense, then increase to the full clinical intensity as tolerance builds.

Are there any precautions or situations where light therapy should be used with caution?

While bright light therapy is generally well tolerated, certain populations should consult a physician before beginning use. Individuals with bipolar disorder should use light therapy under physician supervision, as bright light exposure can in some cases trigger a manic or hypomanic episode. Individuals with retinal conditions, a history of eye disease, or who are taking photosensitizing medications (certain antibiotics, retinoids, some psychiatric medications) should consult an ophthalmologist or prescribing physician before starting light therapy, as photosensitivity can increase the risk of light-related eye irritation or damage. Some users experience mild side effects when beginning therapy, including headache, eye strain, or nausea — typically resolving by reducing the session length, increasing distance from the lamp, or using a lower brightness setting before working up to full intensity. The Day-Light Elite's 100% UV blocking eliminates UV-related skin and eye risk, but the visible light intensity itself still warrants the precautions above for specific patient populations. This product does not replace diagnosis or treatment by a licensed clinician for depression, SAD, or sleep disorders — it is intended as a therapeutic light source used as part of a broader care plan.

Cozy!
Color: Light Grey, Size: 30.0"L x 30.0"W x 7.0"Th
My bully breed loves her bed! It’s comfortable and soft which my dogs seems to love. It’s pretty durable as it’s held up pretty well in the washing machine. I wish it had a removable cover to make washing it easier.

Our dog loves it!
Color: Dark Grey, Size: 36.0"L x 36.0"W x 7.0"Th
We adopted a rescue dog from the police pound and had kept her outside for several years. Recently she has been asking to come inside. I bought her this dog bed hoping to establish a place for her to settle and feel safe when she is inside. She is a medium size dog, about 60 pounds, and this bed fits her perfectly. It is warm and comfortable. She liked it from the start and goes to it when in the house. The grey fur-look fabric is neutral and blends in unobtrusively. It has held up very well. I washed it one time but don’t think it had room to move well in the washer so it didn’t get as clean as I hoped. It could probably be washed better by hand in the bathtub. It dried well in the dryer.

Soft but flimsy

— Just wanted to add an update to say that after I left this review the seller reached out to me to get more feedback and ask how they could make the experience better. I didn’t respond because I was pretty busy. They followed up and informed me that they have issued a refund for my order and that I do not need to send the item back. I appreciate their customer service. — The product is extremely soft. The dogs seem to love it. However, the “donut” part doesn’t hold up at all and the whole bed feels really flimsy. Our dog was on it for a couple mins and when he got up there is an obvious dent from where he was laying. We got a similar bed from Costco a couple months ago for roughly the same price. The bed holds up its shape and feels solid/heavy. We wanted a second one but it was out of stock so we looked on Amazon and found this one. The dark gray one in the photo is from Costco and the light gray one is this product. I probably won’t send it back (too much hassle) but if your dogs are 25lbs+ this bed may not give the support you are looking for.
