Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the battery: Ensure the negative terminal is disconnected to prevent electrical shock or short circuits during installation.
  2. Locate the existing tilt/trim motor: Identify the motor on your outboard engine assembly and note the wire connections.
  3. Disconnect the wire harness: Carefully unplug the bullet connectors from the existing motor. Label wires if necessary for easier reconnection.
  4. Remove mounting bolts: Unscrew the bolts securing the old motor using the appropriate tools. Keep the hardware for reuse if in good condition.
  5. Remove the old motor: Carefully pull the motor away from the mounting bracket. Check the mounting surface for debris or corrosion.
  6. Position the new motor: Align the tanged shaft and mounting holes of the new motor with the bracket on your outboard.
  7. Secure with bolts: Insert and tighten the mounting bolts through the 6.5mm ID holes. Torque to manufacturer specifications if available.
  8. Connect the wire harness: Attach the bullet connectors from the new motor to the corresponding engine wiring. Ensure connections are firm and fully seated.
  9. Verify motor alignment: Check that the motor shaft engages properly with the trim mechanism. There should be no binding or excessive play.
  10. Reconnect the battery: Reattach the negative battery terminal securely.
  11. Test motor operation: Use the tilt/trim switch to raise and lower the outboard several times. Listen for smooth operation and check for unusual noises.
  12. Final inspection: Confirm all connections are secure and there are no fluid leaks from the trim system.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this motor fits my specific Mercury or Mariner engine?
A: Cross-reference your engine's horsepower (135-225 HP), year (1995-2004), and series (Magnum III or XR6) with the compatibility table above. Verify your original motor's part number matches 828708, 828708T, 878265A1, or 878265A4.

Q: What are the signs that my tilt/trim motor needs replacement?
A: Common symptoms include slow or no response when using the trim switch, unusual grinding or clicking noises, intermittent operation, or the motor running but not moving the outboard. Electrical issues like blown fuses can also indicate motor failure.

Q: Will this aftermarket motor perform the same as the OEM Mercury part?
A: Yes, this motor is built to OEM specifications with comparable materials and performance. It features the same voltage (12V), reversible rotation, tanged shaft design, and mounting configuration as the original Mercury part.

Q: Do I need to replace any other components when installing this motor?
A: In most cases, the motor can be installed using existing mounting hardware and connections. However, inspect your wire harness connectors and hydraulic fluid levels in the trim system, and replace if worn or damaged.

Q: Can I install this motor myself or do I need a professional?
A: If you have basic mechanical skills and tools, installation is straightforward following the guide above. However, if you're unfamiliar with marine electrical systems or trim mechanisms, professional installation is recommended for safety and optimal performance.

Good but Installation was a Bit Iffy
Model: iPad A16 11th/10th/Air 11
90% of the time I use my iPad for school. Originally, I used just a regular screen protector, but it would get dirty with smudges and imprints from my Apple Pencil, and there would be a lot of glare since I'm in a classroom most of the time, which would make it awkward to see what I was writing at times. Plus, the screen protector was too smooth so it would actually be difficult to write legibly. This product makes it a lot easier to write smoother on the iPad. I only just installed it, so I can't say much on the smear protection yet, but I can already see the reduction in glare as well. For $8, getting a pack of two of these with an install kit is a very nice deal imo. My only issue was the installation process, which could've been as much my own fault tbh, but I felt like I aligned the screen protector pretty well with the sticker, however the first time I tried installing it it was way off the center (maybe my case got in the way?). The biggest issue was using the squeegee to pop air bubbles, and this is something they don't mention in neither their instruction guide nor video, but you're supposed to used the velvet red side, not the naked white side: using the white side actually takes the grit off the protector, which is obviously something you don't want on a product that relies on it. Thankfully I have another one in reserve in case this one wears off sooner than expected.

Perfect Paperlike substitute
Model: iPad Air/Pro 13
I’ve been using this screen for roughly two months now and I can say it was so worth it, it is rough on plastic nibs! I am going to order some heavier duty ones and see how it fairs! It works just fine ON TOP of a screen protector isn’t that great! I wanted something like paper like but didn’t want to pay that expensive price for something I wasn’t sure I was going to like. This one does the trick and gives me just enough resistance to feel more in control of my pen! It fits well just make sure to know the size if your screen I had to modify where the camera indent was but it cut just fine and looks great!

Feels like paper and makes writing fun!
Model: iPad A16 11th/10th/Air 11
I was hesitant to start using my iPad for class because I HATED how my Apple Pencil sounded hitting the screen while I was writing. This product has completely changed my mind and now I use it almost daily! I love the feel of this screen and it has lasted all semester long. It was a little tricky getting the screen on just right, and I had to use both because the first time I had a bunch of air bubbles, but the second time was perfect! I think you would probably want to get a new screen every year to ensure it still has that paper-like feel, but I think that’s totally reasonable!

It gets the job done.
Model: iPad 9th/8th/7th, Model: iPad 9th/8th/7th
It isn't too difficult to install, but no matter how hard i tried, I still got some bubbles under the screen. It doesn't feel exactly like writing on paper, but it is much more comfortable than writing on the glossy screen. After i did some writing on the screen, the screen got sime marks that looked like scratches, but it seems to be some kind of dust that comes off the scree, i wiped it off and it disappeared. Now everything on the screen looks pixelated.
