(notes from 2018) Recently I was belittled by someone that I respect. I could feel my throat tighten and my entire body became sensitive. I know over the years that this is a familiar feeling, especially when growing up. When a teacher says something hurtful, or a parent or maybe a few of your friends/peers. My response is to recoil and my voice is squashed. I go silent. I feel like I've been stabbed and my voice has been stolen. I find it fascinating how this reaction has stayed with me all this time. My coping is the same. To go silent. Like in a dream when something bad has happened, but you can't scream. Have you had that? This is the throat chakra in full effect. The most creative of spaces. When your voice isn't heard, you will hurt. I try to find my voice through my paintings and my writing. It's a forever process. This is a Nelson's Sparrow. Her voice is a welcomed little trill on the marshy lands where I live. Her song is a part of the orchestra of Spring and Summer here in Wisconsin.
