Carcavelos is one of Portugal's oldest and rarest wine styles: a historic fortified wine from the Lisbon coast, once served at royal courts and exported around the world. Today, only a handful of estates still produce it. Quinta da Corrieira is one of them.

This guided experience takes you inside a working family winery, through the vineyard, and into the tasting room, where you will taste the wines that have kept this tradition alive.

What you will experience

Your visit begins with a welcome glass of Juntos Branco, a dry white wine made from local and international grape varieties by Quinta da Corrieira. 

You will then join a guided walk through the vineyard and winery, where your guide will introduce you to the history of Carcavelos wine, the grape varieties that define it — including Galego Dourado and Arinto — and the production and ageing methods that make this fortified wine unlike anything else produced near Lisbon.

As a small, working winery, Quinta da Corrieira offers something increasingly rare: an authentic, unhurried look at how wine is made at a family scale, by people who have chosen to keep a disappearing tradition alive.

The experience ends in the tasting room with a guided tasting of two Carcavelos wines, exploring different styles and ageing profiles. Your guide will walk you through what makes each wine distinct and what to look for in the glass.

About Carcavelos wine

Carcavelos is a fortified wine produced in one of Portugal's smallest and oldest wine regions, on the coast just west of Lisbon. At its peak in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was one of Portugal's most celebrated exports. Urban expansion gradually reduced the vineyards to almost nothing. Today, Quinta da Corrieira is one of the last private producers keeping the tradition alive — a story worth tasting.
