Overview of the 5.11 Tactical Flag Bearer Cap tactical cap | 89406

Everyday comfort with a tactical look

You want a cap that feels good all day and still looks professional. The 5.11 Tactical Flag Bearer Cap tactical cap, model 89406, gives you a stylish and comfortable alternative to everyday headwear that fits right in on duty, at the range, or off the clock. Built from 100 percent cotton canvas and enzyme washed, it feels broken in from the first wear while staying tough for daily use. The soft crown, traditional six panel configuration, and Buckram front linings keep the shape clean and structured without feeling stiff.

Custom front loop field and 5.11 branding

Across the front panel, a large loop field lets you attach hook backed flag and morale patches in seconds. You can swap identifiers as your role, unit, or assignment changes. Subtle 5.11 logos appear at the back adjustment, on the center front patch area, at the top of the crown, and along the center seam binding, so the cap stays branded without looking busy. Law enforcement, EMS, military, and security users appreciate how easily it blends with uniforms and plate carriers.

Built for heat, weather, and long shifts

This premium cap is designed for all weather performance with lightweight comfort. An integrated wicking jersey sweatband at the forehead, backed by a foam insert, helps keep you cool and dry on hot days and during active work. Embroidered eyelets at the crown add ventilation, while the high curve brim cuts glare in bright conditions. Eight rows of stitching on the bill support long term shape retention. With a one size fits most adjustable fit and color options in Kangaroo tan, Ranger Green, Black, and Dark Navy, it drops into almost any duty or casual kit.

Key Features

  • Material: 100 percent cotton canvas, enzyme washed for a soft, broken in feel with long lasting durability and lightweight comfort.

  • Design: Six panel soft crown fit with Buckram front linings for a structured but comfortable profile that holds patches well.

  • Front loop field: Large loop panel across the front for hook backed flag, morale, and unit patches, allowing fast customization.

  • Brim: High curve brim to block sun and glare during patrols, training, and outdoor work.

  • Branding: 5.11 logos at the back adjustment, center front patch area, top of crown, and interior center seam binding for a clean, professional look.

  • Sweatband: Wicking jersey fabrication for the sweatband with a foam insert to manage moisture and add forehead comfort.

  • Ventilation: Embroidered eyelets at the crown to promote airflow in hot or humid conditions.

  • Construction: Eight rows of top stitching on the bill to maintain shape and resist fraying over time.

  • Fit: One size fits most, with an adjustable rear closure to dial in the fit across a wide range of adult head sizes.

  • Colors: Available in Kangaroo tan, Ranger Green, Black, and Dark Navy to match uniforms, outerwear, and gear.

  • MPN: 89406 for easy ordering, reordering, and inventory tracking by color and style.

  • Care guidance: Best maintained by spot cleaning or gentle hand washing with air dry to preserve color and crown structure.

  • Warranty: Covered under a typical 5.11 Tactical limited warranty against manufacturing defects for added confidence.

Compatibility

The 5.11 Tactical Flag Bearer Cap is designed as a one size fits most tactical cap with an adjustable rear closure. It fits most adult head sizes and hair styles for patrol, training, and off duty wear. Users at the extreme high or low end of standard hat sizing may want to confirm fit, but the adjustment range suits most people comfortably.

The front loop field accepts common hook backed flag and morale patches that many law enforcement, EMS, military, and shooting users already own. While exact loop dimensions are not listed, it is designed to fit standard rectangular flag patches and similar identifiers (assumed based on typical 5.11 design).

Ideal environments include daily patrol, station wear, range days, firearms training, outdoor events, and casual use. The cap is not ballistic rated, not flame resistant, and does not replace required PPE. For agencies or units with strict uniform regulations, always confirm approved colors, logo placement, and patch style before wearing it on duty.

Intended Users

This cap is made for people who work and train in demanding environments and want gear that matches their pace.

  • Law enforcement officers who need a professional cap that accepts flag or agency patches while standing up to long shifts and changing weather.

  • EMS and fire personnel who wear caps around the station, during training, and off duty while keeping a clean, uniform friendly look.

  • Military members, security contractors, and protective details who use hook and loop patches to match units, flags, or mission identifiers.

  • Firearms instructors, competitive shooters, and range staff who spend hours in the sun and need a reliable cap with a high curve brim and good ventilation.

  • Prepared citizens and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate tough, comfortable gear that pairs with their existing 5.11 clothing and equipment.

If you live in a patrol car, ambulance, hangar, range bay, or training field more than a typical office, this cap fits naturally into your everyday setup.

Frequently Asked Questions about Flag Bearer Cap

Question 1: Does the 5.11 Tactical Flag Bearer Cap include a flag patch?

No. The cap arrives with a large loop field on the front, but it does not typically include a separate removable flag patch. You can add your own hook backed flag, morale, or unit patch so the cap matches your uniform and assignment.

Question 2: Is the Flag Bearer Cap comfortable for all day wear in hot weather?

Yes. The enzyme washed cotton canvas feels soft from the start, and the wicking jersey sweatband with foam insert helps manage sweat at the forehead. Embroidered eyelets in the crown improve airflow so the cap remains comfortable during long shifts, training days, or range sessions in warm conditions.

Question 3: How structured is the front of the cap with Buckram linings?

The Flag Bearer Cap uses a six panel soft crown fit combined with Buckram front linings. The Buckram gives the front panels enough structure to support patches and hold shape, while the soft crown keeps the cap from feeling overly rigid. It strikes a balance between a floppy unstructured cap and a stiff dress cover.

Question 4: What head sizes will the one size fits most design cover?

The adjustable rear closure gives you a wide fit range that works for most adult head sizes. If you usually wear standard medium through large hats, this cap should fit well once adjusted. If your head size is unusually small or large, comparing measurements to a favorite hat or trying one on locally is the safest approach.

Question 5: Which color should I choose for duty use?

For law enforcement and many security roles, Dark Navy or Black are often the safest choices to match uniforms. Kangaroo tan and Ranger Green pair well with tactical outerwear, plate carriers, and range clothing. Always check your department or unit policy before selecting a color for on duty use. You can then add an approved patch to the front loop field to complete the setup.

Fast paced romantasy you will not want to put down!
Format: Kindle
4.25 stars! I LOVED this book with similar vibes to Hush Hush, Fourth Wing, and The Serpent and the Wings of Night! It was fast paced with easy world building and will keep you turning the pages late into the night because you will not want to put it down! Huntyr is a fierce bad@ss FMC trained to kill vampyres her entire life. She is sent on a mission to go to the academy and earn her spot into The Golden City. Upon arrival, she is forced to room with the delicious fallen angel, Wolf, who is the only one who knows about her assassin identity. The romance, the plot twists, the secrets revealed, the battles, and the tantalizing training scenes had me hooked! And that ending…. I’m holding my breath in need to know hell! Read if you love: 🪽 Fae, Vampyres, Fallen Angels 🪽 Academy setting with magical trials 🪽 Forced proximity and slow burn 🪽 Rivals to lovers 🪽 Hidden identities and secrets 🪽 Tend your wounds “𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Excellent Rivals to Lovers!!
Format: Kindle
The tension and banter between Huntyr and Wold was delectable. I absolutely love the fallen angel and all of his flaws. Huntyr is amazing too being a badass FMC with some major trauma. The world building was great and I enjoyed the training aspect of the story. The writing was immersive and was in the story the whole time. The ending had quite a twist that I hadn’t anticipated and made my jaw DROP. Excellent job! I also loved the narration. Laura is one of my fave narrators!

Fallen Angels, fae, vampires, oh my!
Format: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 | Spice: 2 (but a good slow-burn) • Main Characters: Huntyr and Wolf • I couldn’t wait to read this book; there was so much hype about it! And there was no doubt why. I fell in love with the characters and the plot itself. This book is mainly plot driven more than friction driven but it’s easy to follow along with. The characters are fun, easily understood. The main setting is at an academy where both the main characters are going through trials and building strength for the final test, The Transcendent. There are fantastic side characters as well. I loved the camaraderie between Huntyr and her friends. But we don’t like Lanson. 😆 We do have some plot twists that come into play throughout the book. Secrets and betrayal to be seen. I did adore Wolf and Huntyr’s relationship. It was a classic slow burn trope. They didn’t hit it off fast, but in time their feelings grew. I loved their banter, so sexy. Wolf is your next book boyfriend; Huntyr is your next vampire assassin independent bad-a*s female. Themes include loyalty, trust, self-discovery, a true slow burn romance. Side note: book ends on a angsty cliffhanger! • Emily, thank you for writing this awesome novel and I cannot wait to devour Book 2, Blood So Brutal! 😍 • Happy reading, my lovelies! xo

“My heart bows to you and you only, Huntress.”
Format: Kindle
3.5 🌟 This book popped up in my KU recommended reading suggestions and the synopsis sounded like what I was in the mood for. I'm so glad I took a chance on it. I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about it and ended up really liking it. I love when this happens. The main characters are likeable and I easily found myself rooting for them. There is a mystery element to each of their backstories that I enjoyed watching unfold and can't wait to get more of. Wolf, in particular, has me fixated. Love him. I found this to be an entertaining, addictive read with a plot that moves along at a good pace. It reads so easily I found myself very reluctant to put it down. Lots of twists and turns and the angst is there. A good set up for the next book to come, for sure. My issues with this book....the dialogue feels a bit juvenile at times and there is a repetitive over use of a particular word phrasing that I found myself giving the ole eye-roll to. There are, without a doubt, some pretty cliche moments that gave me a bit of the cringe. I think this could've certainly 100% benefited from more depth regarding the world building. Perhaps the world building was sacrificed to keep the pacing quick? Just a guess. Also, the lack of consistency of character for the FMC was really evident and so she feels quite illogical at times. Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read that hit the spot well enough for me. That ending certainly has me impatiently pining for book 2!

Interesting take on the genre
Format: Kindle
True rating: 3.25 ⭐️ I enjoyed the fresh take on the genre. The best way I could describe the setting and world is an apocalyptic dystopian version of Farie where vampires, fae, and angles struggle to survive in what is left of the world. It was definitely interesting throwing the academy/hunger games aspect into this world as well. Even though I guessed the final reveal early on in the book, I kept hoping I was wrong, and it would take a surprising turn. While the "plot twists" were a bit predictable to me, I still enjoyed the ride this book took me on. Another downfall for me was the plot holes in the world building... I.E. if society has fallen and the world is in the aftermath of war, how are there trains running around the world? Just to take young adults to the trials to get into the golden city? How is the train maintained, the tracks clear, etc? However, I did enjoy the FMC & MMC and thought they were fleshed out nicely. I also enjoyed the side characters but wish some were developed more like Ashalin (sp?). I do find myself rooting for the MCs to succeed and find happiness together, which is obviously an important aspect for romantasy. Overall, was this an earth-shattering, mind-bending, terrific piece of literature? No. But was it the worst thing I've read this year? Also, no. This book has, to me, the bones of a great read & just needs a bit more to push it from an alright book to a great book. Overall ratings: Plot- 3.5⭐️ World building 3⭐️ Spice 2.5 🌶🌶 Main characters 4 ⭐️ Supporting characters 3.5⭐️
