About the Workshop:
While the art of bookbinding may seem daunting at first, there are some basic book structures that make entering the world of book arts fun and accessible. In this introductory class you will learn the basic use of bookbinding tools and materials, along with simple bookbinding structures that utilize softcovers. Students will learn about non-adhesive structures, bindings for single sheets, and other bindings that can be made with little specialized equipment. Accordions, pamphlets, drum leaf books, and a variety of softcover bindings will be taught during the course. This class is ideal for those who wish to learn simple forms for presenting work, or for building fundamental knowledge on bookbinding.Required Materials:
- Pencil and paper for taking notes
- Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get stained or dirty (CBA will provide aprons, but the ink used on press can stain)

About the Instructor
Elizabeth Castaldo is a New York based artist, printmaker, and bookbinder. Working with collage, drawing, and printmaking she creates multi-layered and visually abundant works on paper and artist’s books that explore nature, the divine feminine and interconnectivity. She was a 2024 art-in-ed workspace resident at Women’s Studio Workshop and has completed residencies at Proyecto ‘Ace in Buenos Aires Argentina, Arquetopia in Oaxaca Mexico, the Center for Book Arts, NYC and Printmaker’s Open Forum, Oxford PA. In 2023, her work was included in an illustrated edition of The Awakening by Kate Chopin published by Kasini House and Kolaj. Her work has been exhibited internationally including with Proyecto ‘Ace, Saint-Paul de Mausole at Saint-Rémy, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Empty Set Gallery, Zuckerman Museum of Art, Center for Book Arts, Saint Joseph’s College, and Landing Contemporary. She teaches printmaking and book arts at Parsons School of Design and the Center for Book Arts. Castaldo received her MFA from SCAD Atlanta where she was a Dean’s Fellow in Printmaking and her BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Her work is held in many private and institutional collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Public Library, SCAD, The University of Alberta, Carnegie Mellon University, Yale University and others. Nice product with lots of uses. Strong magnet and great strap
Size: Medium 16in x 1in
Used this to replace the Klein magnetic strap on my C-800 multimeter. (This is not easy and takes a lot of manipulation, but if you can get it in the plastic loop on the multimeter up past where the loop in the strap end is sewn, you can use a screwdriver through that to yank it the rest of the way). Once it’s done it’s beautiful! This thing could hold 2 dozen multimeters and it’s MUCH longer without being too long! Otherwise it’s just an awesome strap anyway. It holds a lot of weight (I didn’t test to spec) but definitely enough for what one would expect! I have both sizes, the smaller one is attached to the multimeter and the larger holds a cord to the side of my toolbox. (Tip)- to prevent slipping just put the magnetic base on the other side of the metal by the box tray and let the strap hang over (if attached to a toolbox). It adds to the weight it can hold too. (Just physics). That will work on anything vertical and thin enough to get around with enough slack to still use the strap. 👍. Would definitely buy another

An effective organizing solution for missions involving movable equipment

Following the compromised operation in Prague, I was tasked with organizing equipment for the embassy annex in Vienna. The VELCRO Brand Magnetic Straps provided an essential solution for securing various tools and equipment to metal surfaces, facilitating quick access during critical moments. The durability of the strap, combined with an impressively strong magnet, ensured that our gear remained in place despite variable operational conditions.
However, the loop formed by the strap could be larger; it limited our options for certain garden hoses, which became a notable drawback. Overall, the robust quality of the straps enhances logistical efficiency in high-pressure scenarios. Katarina's earlier input on this product proved beneficial, although I detected apprehension in her demeanor while discussing its application.
Recommendation: An effective organizing solution for missions involving movable equipment, with minor adjustments needed for cord size.
