This two-day, in-person workshop takes place at CBA on Saturday and Sunday, July 26th - 27th, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm ET.

  • Saturday, July 26th, from 11AM to 5PM ET

About the Workshop

Letterpress is one of the oldest forms of printmaking and it is a versatile asset to the book artist in the production of editions, text, images, and more. This two day workshop provides an opportunity for participants to  experiment with wood type on press, making source material that they will share on the second day. Participants will learn how to lock up their wood forms and print with multiple colors and formats. On the second day, they will draw from the pool of prints, abstracting the originals through a series of exercises and collage techniques to generate new relationships.

Participants will enjoy exploring the large collection of wood type at CBA and printing with it as both abstract pattern and readable language. They will experience the qualities of letterpress ink, in terms of overlapping colors and increasing transparency. Sharing their prints as a pool of source material, they will work with the prints of their peers as well as their own.

Required Materials:

  • Pencil and paper for taking notes
  • Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get stained or dirty (CBA will provide aprons, but the ink used on press can stain)
  • (optional) on day two, participants may bring additional materials for collage

All other materials will be provided by Center for Book Arts at no additional cost.

Great privacy option for townhome deck!
Color: White, Size: 6 Panel, Color: White, Size: 6 Panel
Deck privacy! I wanted a way to add some privacy to my second floor townhome deck. It’s been holding up well and doesn’t look junky! I used zip ties on one end so I can open and close it as I wish. Great solution to living in close quarters to your neighbors! I purchased the six panel and it’s a perfect size

It works to divide a room, but it's not easy to use.
Color: Grey, Size: 6 Panel
This comes in multiple pieces and you have to build every single piece including the cloth that is between the two poles. There are plastic clips to hold the sections together, but they easily come off if you move the dividers the wrong way or try to reposition it. The only thing holding it up is rectangular shaped feet on the bottom and they are a pain when you hit it with your toes. It works if you need to divide a room, but its not pretty and there are far better options. It's cheaply made and has a habit of falling down if you are trying to use it in a straight or slightly angled line.

Nice divider
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
Nice divider. Set up is a bear. I am a bit concerned with stability. Overall I like it.
