Reproduction of Daylight Savings III by Mary Urban

Mary Urban — "Daylight Savings III" is a compelling example of contemporary fluid abstraction, a movement that emerged in the late 20th century as artists sought to move beyond the rigid structures of geometric abstraction. The work aligns with the tradition of painterly abstraction, particularly influenced by the gestural techniques of Abstract Expressionism, yet it departs from the movement's high-energy, emotive intensity by embracing a more restrained and contemplative aesthetic. Compositionally, the piece is built on an asymmetric balance, with overlapping washes of color and delicate, intersecting lines that create a sense of dynamic equilibrium. The dominant use of white and pale pastels establishes a luminous quality, while the strategic placement of darker accents—such as the deep blue and magenta forms—provides subtle focal points without disrupting the overall harmony. The color palette, characterized by low saturation and a cool temperature, evokes the soft, diffused light of dawn or dusk, a thematic choice that connects the work to the broader tradition of landscape-inspired abstraction. This piece is not merely a visual exercise but a conceptual exploration of time and perception, where the fleeting nature of daylight is rendered through an ethereal, almost ephemeral visual language. Its interpretive significance lies in its ability to transform a mundane concept—daylight savings—into a profound meditation on the passage of time and the beauty of transitional moments, making it a significant contribution to the ongoing dialogue within contemporary abstract art.

Definitely reading more by this author!!!
Format: Paperback
I really enjoyed this book! I absolutely love Holt and Wren. I loved watching them come back together and admit their feelings for each other. What I loved most was the mystery and suspension all throughout this book! It had me hooked from the very beginning, and just when I thought I knew who the culprit was, it was twisted to someone I never expected! I’ll definitely be reading more by this author 🫶🏻

First book by Catherine Cowles and it did not disappoint!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
This was my first book by Catherine Cowles and I am sooo hooked on this series!! I fell in love with Holt & Wren. Having read the blurb before reading, I sort of knew what to expect but you’re left guessing all the way until the end who the culprit is😳 Never in a million years would I have ever guessed it right. It’s so easy to see the love between Holt & Wren never went away and all they did for 10 years was delay the inevitable. Second chance romances are some of my favorites and this was such a good example of it. It was SO fun to watch their love grow again🫶🏼 I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and catch up with the fam and see all their love stories bloom!

Romantic Suspense…
Format: Paperback
Someone please explain to me why this is the first book I’ve ever read by the queen Catherine. When the guy’s name is Holt… automatically gets me every time. And WREN?!? I’m actually obsessed with her. Second chance, small town… yes please. I immediately have to start Nash’s book. Catherine Cowles I don’t know where you’ve been alllll of my life but I can’t believe I missed you at BB. Get ready for me to post about reading your WHOLE backlist!

such a great introduction to her writing
Format: Paperback
For a short story I loved it!! I went into Visions of You not knowing much, and ended up reading it in one sitting ~ which always tells me I’m hooked. This was my first book by Catherine Cowles, and I loved the tension and pining woven throughout the story. The emotional pull between the characters really stood out to me, and I found myself completely invested in their dynamic. Even though it’s a shorter story, it didn’t feel lacking ~ if anything, I just wanted more by the end. I’m so glad I already have several of her books on my shelves because this definitely made me excited to keep reading. A solid 4-star read and such a great introduction to her writing.
