Six Questions Your Del Taco Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit financial model using our own research into high-volume Mexican-American QSR concepts. Key assumptions like the $1.9 million year-one revenue and the 9% combined royalty and marketing fee are pre-populated and fully editable. Here is the quick math: you are looking at a high-volume, 24-hour model that requires precise labor management to protect the $448,000 year-one EBITDA.

Profitability Timeline

Based on our research, this unit hits monthly break-even by March 2026, just three months after opening. While Year 1 EBITDA starts strong at $448,000, the model shows a dip in Year 2 as staffing scales to meet a 24-hour operational cycle. You have to stay focused on the $500,000 street taco baseline to keep the lights on.

Improve Profitability

  • Optimize 24/7 labor shifts
  • Grow high-margin catering sales
  • Control food waste percentages
[dynamic_pic9]

Capital Allocation

You will need a significant capital expenditure budget to get this location off the ground in the US. The total investment exceeds $2.2 million, covering everything from the $35,000 franchise fee to $950,000 in leasehold improvements for a modern facility. What this estimate hides is the timing of cash outlays before the first taco is ever sold.

Major Uses of Capital

  • Leasehold Improvements: $950,000
  • Kitchen Equipment: $450,000
  • Drive-Thru Infrastructure: $350,000
  • POS Systems and Tech: $150,000
[dynamic_pic10]

Investment Returns

This is a long-term play, as the payback period extends beyond the first five years due to the heavy upfront infrastructure costs. With an IRR (internal rate of return) of -0.75% and a ROE (return on equity) of -0.39% in this specific scenario, your focus must be on driving high-volume throughput to turn the corner. Still, the $3 million revenue target in Year 5 shows the potential for significant scale.

Investor Metrics

  • Internal Rate of Return: -0.75%
  • Return on Equity: -0.39%
  • Payback: After Year 5
[dynamic_pic11]

Break-Even Analysis

To cover fixed costs like the $18,000 monthly rent and $4,200 in utilities, you need to hit your stride by month three. The primary driver here is volume, specifically from high-margin items like drinks and fries which are projected to start at $150,000 annually. If your opening takes 90+ days longer than planned, working capital pressure rises quickly.

Levers for Speed

  • Increase average ticket size
  • Maximize drive-thru speed
  • Upsell side items consistently
[dynamic_pic12]

Cash Liquidity

The lowest cash point hits in August 2026 at negative $797,000, which means you defintely need a robust working capital reserve or financing plan. Estimating labor costs for 24-hour restaurant operations is tricky, so keep a buffer for those early months of training and ramp-up. To be fair, the 24/7 model is a cash cow only if you manage the graveyard shift efficiently.

Protect Cash Flow

  • Phase equipment buying cycles
  • Manage opening inventory levels
  • Delay non-essential crew hires
[dynamic_pic13]

Scenario Planning

Our franchise profitability analysis looks at how a 10% drop in revenue or a spike in food costs changes your peak cash need. In a high-growth scenario where catering and delivery hit $384,160 by Year 5, your year-end EBITDA improves significantly, shortening the path to positive returns. How to project revenue for a new restaurant location depends entirely on your local marketing execution.

Hit the High Case

  • Local marketing execution
  • Loyalty program adoption
  • Staff productivity gains

Long-TermGrowth Roadmap

Mapping out a QSR franchise business plan requires looking past the first year of honeymoon sales. This model provides a full 5-year view, showing how revenue scales from $1.9 million to over $3 million as your catering and delivery channels mature. We focus on the long game because your exit value depends on sustained cash flow, not just a lucky opening month.

  • 5-year revenue forecasts
  • Profit and cash flow projections
  • Balance sheet view
  • Long-term profitability analysis

FeeStructure Tracking

Analyzing franchise royalty and marketing fees in Excel is critical because these off-the-top costs hit your margin every single week. We've baked in a 5% royalty and 4% marketing fund contribution to ensure your store-level EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) reflects the true cost of brand membership. It's about seeing the net cash that actually stays in your pocket.

  • Initial franchise fee inputs
  • Royalty expense calculations
  • Marketing fund contributions
  • Ongoing franchise cost tracking

Investmentand Break-Even

Knowing how to calculate startup costs for a fast food franchise is the difference between a successful launch and a mid-build cash crunch. With over $2.2 million in initial capital needed for items like leasehold improvements and drive-thru tech, this break-even analysis for quick service restaurant franchise shows exactly when you stop burning cash. Every dollar spent on the build-out must be justified by future throughput.

  • Total startup investment
  • Fixed and variable cost analysis
  • Break-even sales estimates
  • Margin and contribution view

PerformanceBenchmarks

We use unit economics from real-world QSR operations to set baseline targets for food and labor. If your food ingredients are trending above 12%, the model flags the variance so you can adjust portioning or vendor pricing to stay competitive. Comparing your unit against industry standards helps you spot margin leaks before they drain your bank account.

  • Occupancy cost benchmarks
  • Gross margin ranges

No scent and blends in surprisingly well.
Style: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Eucerin 50 (Sensitive Mineral - Zinc Oxide) Expiration date: Sept. 2026 Purchase date: May 2025 The most noticeable ingredients in the sunscreen are zinc oxide, mineral oil, and a yellow tint. The sunscreen is not scented which is always a plus. The yellow tint was not noticeable on my deep bronze skin. My skin is sensitive to many chemical products but not this one. The product blended in well into my skin both when dry and when using a moisturizing toner. There was not a white cast after giving it a few minutes to be absorbed by the skin. Most oil-based sunscreens leave my skin feeling greasy when perspiring but the Eucerin 50 was a pleasant surprise. The perspiration felt normal and not greasy. Overall, I am very pleased with the product. It is great for active people who normally sweat away sunscreen. Eucerin 50 left my skin feeling very soft after washing it off. This is the first mineral oil-based sunscreen that I have found to be satisfactory. I believe it to be a good value at the twenty-dollar or less price range. Warning!: It can stain your clothing. Do not store oil-based sunscreens in a hot environment like your automobile. The ingredients will separate.

I've tried MANY sunscreens. This is the best for the money you can buy.
Style: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have a section in my closet reserved for the graves of past sunscreens. And there are A LOT. Reasons why this is the best for price point: 1. No white cast. Maybe 2%. Yes, there is a bad a white cast when you first put it on, especially if your face is still a tad damp from washing. But it almost completely disappears within minutes. And this is coming from someone who is of Southeast Asian descent, and currently have a natural a tan this time of year. I get tan because I don't apply it every 2 hours as recommended. I only use it when I'm working out outside and the sun is blasting my face. I live where it gets very sunny. 2. NOT oily. I have super oily skin and so many of my sunscreens makes my face more of an oil slick than normal. I have matiffying ones, that work well, but it gets expensive. 3. Fragrance free! I prefer to use as many fragrance-free products as possible. 4. DOESN'T STING EYES. I'm surprised at how many "sunscreens for the face" are out there that absolutely sting my eyes into waterworks. 5. Price-point. A giant tube (for the face) for all that? It will take me a very long time to go through it. For my body, I use cheaper fragrance-free mineral sunscreens, or sunscreens I want to get rid of. 6. I use a moderate strength prescription of Tretinoin, and those who know, know that without sun protection, the skin can get burned and irritated extremely easily. Not me! And I use Tretinoin every single night. I'm so glad Eucerin made this, I hope they never discontinue this!

Awful for normal/combo skin types!
Style: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Terrible for normal/combo skin! I applied sunscreen to my clean, dry face – without moisturizer. After waiting 25 minutes, I checked to see if the product hadn’t absorbed into my skin. It remained on top of my skin in a shiny, slippery, greasy film that rubbed off onto anything it touched. It’s settled thickly into crevices and fine lines, especially in the folds of my eyelids. There was so much shine – not glow – on my skin that it created flashback when I took a picture. Somehow, the sunscreen made my skin appear both oily and dry at the same time! Many other reviewers said that they successfully put make up over this sunscreen, but I cannot imagine how this would be successful, unless the makeup finish was incredibly matte. It’s the worst experience I’ve ever had with any sunscreen!

Great sunscreen that smells good too!
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This stuff actually smells good and the scent doesn't smell like chemicals. It comes out clear which is perfect because I bought it for my little blonde headed, fair skinned 16 month old. It's nice to not have his hair looking all weird with white sunscreen spray. Overall, very pleased with it! Came just in time for our trip to the zoo the other day!
