The wine has a pale yellow color, with bright greenish tints. The nose is intense and delicate with hints of apple. The palate is dry and mineral with pleasant acidity and salinity, persistent and harmonious.

Made from 100% Carricante grapes (one of Etna's most renowned). The berry is medium-sized with very pruinose skin that is greenish-yellow in color. The bunches are of average length and scattered. The vines are grown on sandy, volcanic soils that are rich in minerals, with sub-acid reaction. Plants range in age from 20 to 60 years and are trained in both “alberello” (head-trained bush) and spurred cordon systems, with densities of 6,000 to 7,000 vinestocks per hectare and yields of 7,000 to 8,000 kg/ha. Vineyards vary in elevation from 700 m (c. 2,300 ft) to 950 m (c. 3,100 ft) a.s.l. The climate type ranges from high hill to mountain, with a humid and rainy cooler season, high ventilation and a significant diurnal range.

The grapes are harvested by hand around mid-October, de-stemmed and soft-pressed. Fermentation lasts 12 days and takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 18°C, with the aid of Benanti’s own indigenous yeast, which was selected from local vineyards through years of research and experimentation in the celllar. The wine then matures in stainless steel on the fine lees for a while and then refines in the bottle for 2-3 months.

Food Pairing: This wine pairs well with fish and seafood.

Excellent pre WW2 Churchill primer.
Format: Hardcover
This author has done an excellent job of explaining the role Churchill played in preparing Britain for WW2 despite being out of government for most of the 1930’s. The author is a curator and historian who has managed the collections at Chartwell, Churchill’s home during that time. Very well researched and easy to read. Anyone who studies 20th Century European history needs to read this book.

Book for Churchill fans
Format: Hardcover
Not an introduction to Churchill but fills out a period of his life that is often overlooked. Some fascinating insights into people who visited Chartwell. I really enjoyed this book, but it's not for everyone.

An excellent addition to the library of books about the life of Churchill.
Format: Hardcover
Excellent story of Churchill's years in the wilderness, warning of the growing threat of Nazi Germany from 1932 to the early of the war. Thoroughly researched and well written, given the complexities of what was going on contemporaneously.

Just like the PBS series....
Format: Hardcover
This book is a step, or two, deeper into the 'wilderness years' than the PBS series by the same name. But frankly, the series, available on YouTube, is a better buy (it's free) for the money and quite entertaining due to its great casting with folks like Robert Hardy, Sian Phillips, and Eric Porter. But, if you're a reader, this book is worth the effort and cost.

A great book about a great estate and the great man who inhabited it.
Format: Kindle
Carter does a superb job of accurately recounting the history of Chartwell and the people and events that made it such a special place.
