Roasted 6/22
Variety: SL34 & Various
Region: Kiambu, Kenya
Altitude: 1700+ Meters Above Sea Level
Process: Washed
Harvest: December 2025

A blast of red fruit & assorted roses come with this Kiambu coffee. This is an exceptional AA separation with layers of dried & fresh fruit sweetness. Imani boasts notes of sangria, glossy grape tones, cranberry, raspberry, roses & citric medleys. The acidity in this cup complements the sweetness with a massive range. Imani is a favorite for high tones and crystal clear expressions, especially for iced coffee. This is a stunning cup.
The Imani coffee farm covers a total area of close to 500 acres! With 280 acres dedicated to forest, dams, marshland, roads, and labor housing. The land features deep, well-drained red volcanic soils, specifically Nitisols and Andosols, which are highly fertile and provide ideal conditions for coffee production. The climate is generally cool, with particularly cold and wet periods occurring between May and July. These conditions slow cherry development and extend the maturation period, ultimately enhancing cup quality.
Processing begins with handpicked ripe red cherries, which are pulped on the day of harvest. The coffee undergoes full fermentation and washing before being thoroughly dried and stored in well-ventilated bins. To manage environmental impact, the estate operates an efficient water recirculation system consisting of 16 lagoons in series, designed to purify wastewater from the pulping process. The natural forest ecosystem on the estate remains well-preserved, supporting a rich diversity of flora and fauna across both terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Farmers are encouraged to protect indigenous species, and the region is home to wildlife such as snakes, deer, hares, weaverbirds, owls, and hawks.
SL-34 is an original variety selected from the Typica family tree. This coffee was favored for optimal Kenya cultivation in the 1930's. SL-34 is highly regarded for it's cup quality and nuance. Ruiru-11 is a disease resistant hybrid developed for high-yield production in Kenya. Although the majority of this lot is comprised of these two varieties, it is most likely there is a mix of SL-28 and other commonly grown varieties mixed into this lot.
