Around him, towering sandstone formations rise from the desert floor in the warm amber light of the Middle East. Dust moves across the ground. The sky is wide and dramatic, clouds building above the canyon walls. This is Wadi Rum. This is the landscape of Lawrence of Arabia. This is the kind of place where history happens and the scale of everything makes a person feel appropriately small.

From the top right of the frame, descending from above the clouds, an enormous hand holds a feather duster — dark feathers, long wooden handle, the kind found in every household and now, apparently, in the hand of something considerably larger than a household. It is being swept across the top of the nearest sandstone formation with the brisk efficiency of someone who has a lot of ground to cover. The rock face raises a cloud of dust where the feathers make contact. The lone figure watches. He has seen many things in this desert. This is the most thorough.
