Frederick’s of Hollywood: 26 Years of Mail Order Seduction. Edited by Laura & Janusz Gottwald; introduction by Frederick N. Mellinger (founder & inventor). 1st Edition, Published by Drake Publishers for Castle Books, in agreement with Strawberry Hill Publishers, 1973. Hardcover, mottled gray/green paper with black spine titling, in pink/pale green pictorial jacket, 255 pages. Illustrated in b/w.

A genius compilation of vintage catalogs, with wild illustrations and often hilarious ad copy of the designs of Frederick Mellinger, the inventor of the push-up bra and founder of Frederick’s of Hollywood.

“Editor’s Note: These are the clothes that fulfilled and helped define the American woman’s dream from the mid 1940’s to the early 1970’s. We’ve tried to capture some of this dream in our selections from the Frederick’s collections. All of the copy and fashion illustrations are directly photographed from the Frederick’s of Hollywood catalogs. We have also tried to preserve the feeling and texture of the original catalogs in the design of this book. In compiling these materials we encountered some difficulties. All the original artwork had been lost or destroyed. A number of catalogs were also lost (most notably the years 1959 through 1962). And, all of the existing catalogs were poorly preserved, thereby forcing from the book many items which couldn’t be salvaged or reproduced. However, the less-than-perfect quality of some of the reproductions is far outweighed by both their authenticity and the design of the fashions themselves. September 1973”

My son destroys shoes, same thing happened here.
Size: 5 Big Kid, Color: Black
For some reason my son started doing the duck walk at school and while performing this little trick for his classmates he ripped the rubber that wraps over top the toe. Now, instead of being glued up and into place, its basically sagging down. Thankfully that's the only thing that's gone wrong with these and honestly this sort of wear and tear is not typical. What I would say is that if your child is rough on shoes, I would pass on these. They are very nice, very light weight and are great for school. However, due to the design, they might not best good for some kids. In terms of sizing and comfort, my son wears a 5 and these fit him very well. He has wide feet like his dad, and these don't bother him at all. He's says they're very comfortable and does enjoy wearing them.

No tying necessary
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
I ordered a kids size 1 for my child, and so far, I’ve been really happy with these shoes. Here’s what I like: ✅ Stylish design and comfortable fit. My daughter loves wearing these. ✅ They don’t show scuffs or scratches easily. ✅ The color is what I expected from the item pictures and it’s really cute. ✅ The Velcro straps make these easy to get off and put on. ✅ There’s a piece of Velcro on the tongue to help keep it in place. Really smart. ✅ The seams have not pulled apart and overall, these seem to be really well made. They have offered good support for my child’s feet, and a shoe that my child can put on by themselves is a win for me!

Durable girls sneakers
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
These Saucony girls sneakers in fuchsia are great. The design and coloring are fun and vibrant and the cushioning on the insole is good with just enough bounce. The material and construction seem durable. The Velcro strap secures in two places so you get a snug fit without the shoe “tongue” moving around. The sizing seems true to size. Overall these are a very solid, comfortable and functional pair of sneakers. $47, the current price, is about the price for similar products these days.
