Note From the Roaster

This is our fourth time working with the Lamastus Family Estates from Panama. This Geisha is very expressive, showing lovely notes of fresh raspberries, delicate jasmine, and tangerine.

  • Variety: Geisha
  • Country: Panama
  • Region: Potrerillos, Chiriquì Province
  • Process: Natural
  • Altitude: 1800 MASL
  • Harvest: 2025
  • Producer: Lamastus Family

In the cup

We taste fresh raspberries, delicate white florals, and sparkling tangerine. This coffee has a light body and a long citric finish.

About The Producer

The Lamastus Family has been producing coffee for four generations since 1918. Their three estates—Elida, El Burro, and Luito Geisha—are located at a very high elevation in a microclimate with very low temperatures. The coffee trees are surrounded by the Volcan Baru National Park. The family tradition continues on strong, as they still produce, process, and export their own rare estate coffees. This Geisha is produced under unique conditions for several reasons: the farm is located at a very high elevation, it is grown in rich young volcanic soils, and the temperatures are quite low. This results in a tree taking from 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 years to start producing (2 or 3 years longer to produce than average), which extends the overall ripening time and development of the cherries.

Processing

The growing conditions for this Geisha lot are very specialized. The trees are shade-grown and surrounded by a private forest reserve. The El Burro Estate is home to many exotic native species of plants, birds, and mammals. This particular lot is natural. All of the natural mucilage surrounding the seed of the coffee cherry is left on the seed prior to drying. These lots are dried utilizing sunlight through bastidor/screens and Guardiola rotating driers. It takes approximately 10-12 days to finish drying.

Variety

This variety was originally collected from coffee forests in Ethiopia in the 1930s. From there, it was sent to the Lyamungu research station in Tanzania, and then brought to Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE) in Central America in the 1953, where it was logged as accession T2722. It was distributed throughout Panama via CATIE in the 1960s after it had been recognized for tolerance to coffee leaf rust. However, the plant's branches were brittle and not favored by farmers so it was not widely planted. The coffee came to prominence in 2005 when the Peterson family of Boquete, Panama, entered it into the "Best of Panama" competition and auction. It received exceptionally high marks and broke the then-record for green coffee auction prices, selling for over $20/pound.There is significant confusion about Geisha because there are multiple genetically distinct plant types that have been referred to as Geisha, many of which share similar geographic origins in Ethiopia. Recent genetic diversity analyses conducted by World Coffee Research confirm that Panamanian Geisha descendent from T2722 is distinct and uniform. It is associated with extremely high cup quality when the plants are managed well at high altitude, and is known for its delicate floral, jasmine, and peach-like aromas.

Great quality at an unbeatable price!
I was a little worried that this would be cheap quality, but it's not. It's sturdy, modern and fits perfectly under my bathroom sink. I use it to hold my washcloths that I use to clean my face. It's the best way to store them so that they can air dry and not look gross and soggy out on my counter, lol. Love this product so much that I intend to purchase one for my kitchen, just wanted to check the quality first. I'm sure that I'll have this for years to come, such a great purchase!

Excellent cabinet towel rack.
I had no doubt that this item had to be good from the moment I saw the detailed pictures of it on Amazon. The item is built very well out of stainless steel and adjusts easily to fit the cabinet door in the kitchen. I am so impressed by the way it is working. I can hang 6 different wash clothes/towels on it and not have to have them clutter the sink area. I am very impressed by this item. The fact that it adjusts in length also means that I can get the most use out of it.

Can easily hide towels
Works nicely. I have it mounted with towels hanging on the inside of my cabinet so you see only the small hooks on the outside of the cabinet door. It extends nicely and has ample room for one towel folded in half on each bar; you would have to fold each towel again to get 2 side by side. Only minor issue the hooks extend over the door a little lower than I'd like and they are beveled outward on the bottom so you see this on the outside. I have a similar design single bar rack with smaller less noticeable hooks. Neither one is completely invisible but at least I can hide the towels and not cover up my new beautiful stainless range or cabinets with towels. Worth the money.

A simple but useful little gadget
I love my little galley kitchen which really only has one wall as it is open to the family room and dining room. So no available wall space meant no place to install towel bars. That meant there was no space to hang up my dish towels to dry. These towel bars were the solution to that little (but daily) annoyance. They attached easily and securely to my cabinet drawers. I am very pleased with them.

Great Towel Rack
This is a replacement for a similar towel rack. It looked exactly the same, but welds failed after a number of years. This one is designed much better. It is adjustable the other was not. Very clean looking and expect this to last at least as long as the other or longer. My wife loves it.
