COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Plan & Conduct Effective Business Meetings course. This program equips you with the knowledge, structures, and facilitation techniques needed to run purposeful, productive, and engaging meetings across all business contexts. You will explore why meetings matter, how they influence organisational performance, and how to transform unproductive discussions into high-value decision-making forums. This course also covers the complete lifecycle of effective meetings—from planning and preparation through facilitation, decision-making, follow-up, and evaluation—alongside modern strategies for virtual meetings.

This course begins by examining the importance of business meetings, how to spot ineffective meetings, and the real organisational impact of poor planning. You will explore the symptoms of ineffective meetings, the principles of effective meetings, and the benefits that well-run meetings deliver. This section also explains why conducting a cost-benefit analysis is essential, how to decide whether a meeting is truly necessary, how to define meeting purpose, and how to set clear expectations for participants. You will also learn how meetings communicate possibility, opportunity, and action, how to make decisions, and when to rely on voting, consensus, or delegation to reach outcomes.

The next learning area focuses on agenda planning, participant preparation, and meeting structure. You will explore what not to do when scheduling an agenda, how to pick and prepare participants, and how to set the scene for effective engagement. This section includes how to display the meeting agenda, how to assign roles, and the four key roles to consider—facilitator, scribe, timekeeper, and note taker. You will examine how to use these roles most effectively, how to start meetings correctly, and how to manage special circumstances that arise. You will also learn how to agree on ground rules and the three “don’ts” to avoid when establishing them.

A further part of the program examines facilitation, discussion management, and team dynamics. You will explore how to conduct a meeting, make better use of meeting time, and encourage meaningful discussion. This section includes techniques for directing conversational “traffic,” recognising the four essential team player styles, and working productively with personal differences. You will also explore how to guide groups toward decisions, how to close meetings effectively, and what steps help end meetings with clarity and accountability. This section concludes with how to evaluate meetings, the importance of meeting minutes, and how to support individuals responsible for action items.

You will also explore role-related challenges and participant development, including what to do when there are problems with facilitator, scribe, timekeeper, or note-taker performance. This section examines why ongoing training benefits meeting participants, how to identify causes behind meeting-related problems, and how to use tools such as repetitive-why analysis and cause-and-effect analysis to diagnose breakdowns in process or communication. You will also learn how to stimulate and support thinking within groups, how to generate a large volume of ideas, and how to run effective brainstorming and mind-mapping sessions.

The final learning area focuses on evaluating and choosing options, planning actions, and conducting virtual meetings. You will learn how to evaluate choices, organise ideas generated by the group, decide on preferred options, and create action plans. This section concludes with how to conduct virtual meetings, including why meeting leaders must focus on purpose, people, and process when using technology to ensure clarity, engagement, and smooth participation.

By the end of this course you will be able to plan, facilitate, and evaluate meetings with purpose and confidence, manage group dynamics effectively, guide discussions toward decisions, and use both in-person and virtual meeting environments to drive clear outcomes that support organisational goals.

A great laptop stand
At first, I was skeptical of the price, especially when I opened up the box and what I was presented with was nothing but a thick chunk of shaped metal. However, now that I've been using this for a bit of time, I can attest to it's quality: 1. This thing is STURDY. One of my children is a curious (read: nosy) four year old who loves to inspect anything she can get her hands on. No amount of her typing, tugging, pulling or otherwise manipulation of the work laptop upon this stand has budged it in the slightest. Unless you are (an adult) intentionally trying to remove the laptop from the stand, your computer is very stable. 2. It's actually great for hiding wires. It has a hole in the back for tunneling wires towards/away from the computer, and this stand being the hunk of metal that it is, does a nice job obscuring such wires, which gives the stand a nice, clean look on a desk with a little bit of care. For some people, this matters a lot, which gives this stand an edge over the more architecturally sparse stands on Amazon. 3. The space between the "legs" of the stand and the "floor" where your computer rests is a great place to hide your phone while getting work done. I put mine on a charger and hide my phone there, which is really nice for limiting any tendencies to check my phone when I have a lull in my attention span. Since you can't see the phone when it rests there, but you can still hear it, I found myself pleasantly surprised that this stand could enable better productivity from my bad habits. It's a good stand and it's worth the money, especially if you have dual monitors and/or you're trying to improve the ergonomics of your workspace.

Timeless and sturdy!
Such a huge fan of this company. We've bought multiple stands and loved them. I had the older more silver ones previously but got the black one for my newer Mac and it's awesome. The design is perfect. and it's helpful not just for the function of holding the stand, but it's helping keep the laptop cool by drawing heat away and also airflow/etc. I had a guy in the office the other day come ask me if he could swap me for the black one because he loved it so much. lol. Anyway, great stands. We've been buying from this company for almost 10 years. Solid. They look as new today as they did when we bought the first one.

Works great in my setup
I got this for my work desk, and it does exactly what it's advertised to do: it holds my laptop (which is 16 inches). And it doesn't wobble and shake whenever I type on my external keyboard (I use a Unicomp Ultra Classic, which uses buckling springs, so I'm putting a decent amount of force into each keypress - if a stand is not stable, it will be immediately obvious to me), and I can even move my mouse underneath the stand without running into any problems. (Before, when my laptop was sitting directly on the desk, it was annoying how it made me move my keyboard around and inhibited my range of mouse movement, but now I can place my keyboard right where I want it and use my mouse as I please.) The stand feels very sturdy and well-constructed, and it keeps my laptop at eye level. Height-adjust would be nice, but I have yet to find a good quality adjustable laptop stand, so I'll just use books to adjust it if the need arises. The box it comes in is also quite nice. This thing freed up desk space where I needed it and is unlikely to ever fail (there are no moving parts), so I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop stand.

Beautiful design
Simple, functional and beautifully designed, I'm glad I bought it. (not a five starts just because I thought it was higher, but again, my fault for not reviewing the specs first)
