The 2020 Pinot Noir Rosé has a Provence-like salmon hue that hints at the elegant, fresh style that will unfold in the glass. Intensely fragrant, the floral notes and bright red fruit sing beautifully of “classic” Central Otago Rosé. Enticing aromas of pomegranate, wild strawberry, and red apple are carried long on the palate by the fresh acidity. It is just off-dry with great concentration and sweet red fruit that is perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity which is the hallmark of wines from Gibbston and a result of their decision to pick early. With each new vintage, they set out to make a complex Rosé that is balanced and engaging - truly a kaleidoscope for the senses.

The fruit for the 2020 Wild Earth Pinot Noir Rosé comes from an organically farmed vineyard in Gibbston that was purposefully selected to produce a fragrant, balanced Rosé that is fresh and delicious

Following a mild winter, the 2019-2020 growing season was generally cool natured. February was wet with double the average amount of rainfall and March followed with less rainfall but it all fell over the same week. March was one of the coolest in recent times which slowed the final ripening period. Yields were normal with minimal disease pressure and we had the benefit, particularly in Gibbston, of the classic long hang time. The cool nights helped retain the perfect level of acidity for Rosé.

The hand harvested grapes were picked later in April and were left on skins for 2 days before pressing. The cooler growing season resulted in less pigment in the grape skins which gave them a paler pink / “onion skin” colour (vs pure pink). The juice was fermented at cooler temperatures in a stainless-steel tank to retain freshness. No fining products are used to make this wine. Therefore this wine is vegan.
