Audio-Technica AT-SP65XBT Wireless Bluetooth Speaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The AT-SP65XBT is a portable Bluetooth wireless speaker from Audio-Technica (Tokyo, Japan), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Designed for versatile everyday use, this compact stereo speaker pairs effortlessly with Bluetooth-enabled devices including smartphones, tablets, and Bluetooth turntables such as the Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT. It delivers 12 watts of total output power through two 73 mm full-range drivers and a passive radiator, covering a frequency response of 90 Hz to 18,000 Hz. With a built-in omnidirectional electret condenser microphone and Bluetooth 5.0, the AT-SP65XBT functions equally well as a speakerphone or a music speaker, with up to 12 hours of continuous playback from its rechargeable lithium polymer battery.

Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual-Driver Audio Performance

At the heart of the AT-SP65XBT is Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity operating across the 2.402 GHz to 2.480 GHz frequency band using FHSS modulation, with a line-of-sight range of approximately 10 metres (33 feet). The speaker supports the A2DP, AVRCP, and HFP Bluetooth profiles, enabling high-quality stereo audio streaming as well as full hands-free calling functionality. The SBC codec handles audio decoding at supported sample rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz at 16-bit depth, ensuring compatibility with the broadest range of source devices. Two 73 mm full-range drivers work alongside a rear-firing passive radiator to extend low-frequency output beyond what the driver size alone would suggest, producing a fuller, more room-filling sound in a housing that measures just 270 mm wide by 113 mm tall.

Wired Input, Speakerphone, and Battery Life

For sources without Bluetooth, a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack on the rear panel accepts a wired connection using the included 0.6 m audio cable, making the AT-SP65XBT compatible with virtually any device regardless of wireless capability. The front-mounted omnidirectional electret condenser microphone picks up voice clearly during hands-free calls when the speaker is paired with a smartphone, while dedicated top-panel buttons for power, play/pause, volume, and call management keep controls accessible at a glance. The internal lithium polymer battery charges via USB-C in approximately three hours and delivers up to 12 hours of continuous playback at moderate listening levels, making it a practical choice for extended use at home, at a desk, or outdoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Audio-Technica AT-SP65XBT?

The Audio-Technica AT-SP65XBT is a portable Bluetooth 5.0 stereo speaker with 12 W of total output power, dual 73 mm full-range drivers, a passive radiator, and a built-in omnidirectional microphone. It supports wireless music streaming and hands-free calling, and includes a 3.5 mm aux input for wired sources. Battery life reaches up to 12 hours of continuous playback from a single charge.

How does the AT-SP65XBT compare to the JBL Go 3 or Bose SoundLink Flex?

The AT-SP65XBT offers a wider stereo soundstage than the mono JBL Go 3, thanks to its dual-driver configuration, and its 12 W combined output exceeds the Go 3's 4.2 W rating. Compared to the Bose SoundLink Flex, the AT-SP65XBT is larger and better suited to stationary desktop or shelf use, while the SoundLink Flex prioritises weatherproofing (IP67) and outdoor portability. The AT-SP65XBT does not carry an IP water-resistance rating, making it best suited to indoor or sheltered listening environments where its fuller stereo presentation is the priority.

Can the AT-SP65XBT be used with a turntable?

The AT-SP65XBT works directly with Bluetooth turntables that have an onboard phono preamp and Bluetooth output, such as the Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT. For turntables without Bluetooth, the 3.5 mm aux input accepts a wired connection from any turntable with a built-in phono preamp and a headphone or line-level output. Turntables that output a raw phono-level signal and require an external phono preamplifier will need that preamp in the signal chain before connecting to the speaker.

What is a passive radiator, and why does it matter?

A passive radiator is an unpowered speaker diaphragm that resonates in response to air pressure generated by the active drivers inside the cabinet. It extends low-frequency output without requiring a larger cabinet or an active subwoofer, allowing compact speakers like the AT-SP65XBT to produce fuller bass than their physical size would otherwise allow. The result is improved depth and body in the low end compared to a sealed or ported design of similar dimensions.

Does the AT-SP65XBT support aptX or AAC codecs?

The AT-SP65XBT supports SBC as its Bluetooth audio codec. It does not support aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, or AAC. SBC operates at the standard 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz sample rates at 16-bit depth, which is fully adequate for streaming from most smartphones and portable players. Listeners who prioritise higher-resolution wireless codecs may want to consider Audio-Technica's higher-tier wireless audio products.

How long does the battery take to charge, and how long does it last?

The AT-SP65XBT charges in approximately three hours via the included USB-A to USB-C cable and delivers up to 12 hours of continuous music playback under standard test conditions (75 dB SPL average at half a metre). Actual battery life will vary based on volume level and source content. A single charge is sufficient for a full day of typical desktop or portable use.

My dogs favorite balls
Size: Medium
These are great for my dog who always has to have a ball in her mouth. Not too hard so I don't have to worry about her teeth. They last for ever. They do lose their shape a little over time (like I said, she always has a ball in her mouth) they become a little oval in shape. They still bounce, she still chases it and she still chews on it so I don't think she notices or cares. I've gotten her a bag full of these over time and I have only seen one that she chewed a chunk out.

My Dachshunds Love These
Size: Small
These balls are durable, flexible material, highly chewable without being easily destroyed. I stuff them with Milkbone Maro Snacks, which are just the right size to twist into the holes in the ball. My dogs literally get an hour+ chewing and chasing entertainment from these. They chew them, they sometimes 'pop' out of their mouths, go rolling across the floor, dogs chasing them. This satisfies their urge to hunt prey. Dachshunds can easily tear this kind of stuff-it-toy apart. These have lasted for a long time without tearing or shredding. I would NOT recommend them for a dog much larger than a tweenie weenie. They're a bit on the small side and might be swallowed by a larger dog. It would be cool it they also came in a larger size (and probably ball wall thickness also) for the bigger dogs to enjoy. These stuff-it chew balls are better than the kong balls my dogs had before these. Highly recommend them.

My puppy’s favorite fetch toy!
Size: Small
Update Aug 27, 2024: After 10 months, these are still his favorite ball. He’s obsessed with fetching and plays with them all day. They do bounce really high. Unfortunately, the small size aren’t available for sale anywhere anymore. I tried the medium size, and he has a bit of trouble hanging on to them, but he manages. Weirdly, he prefers the orange one, but he also plays with the blue one. My 7 month old Shih Tzu puppy loves to fetch, and these are his new favorites. They’re small enough to fit in his mouth, and they are made of hard plastic, so he’s able to hold on to them. They have a lot of bounce, and this adds to the fun for him. I highly recommend them.

Genuinely bummed that these great balls can’t stand up against my Chloè.
Size: Medium
I love all the Chuckit brand of balls. I found that the Strabo and glow balls in the Chuckit line are the softest, and as such, don't last as long as the rest of Chuckit line of balls. Having said that, they do last longer than than every other brand I've tried (and I do believe I’ve tried every brand available on the market today.) The strato balls do bounce higher than any of the other balls in the Chuckit line. They really are a good value.

Great dog balls at a great price
Size: Medium
The balls are a favorite for my dog. I could have done without the hole through the middle because I don't do treats in balls anyway. My dog loves balls for their own merit. I needed replacement balls for my Nerf Dog Ball launcher. It seems the originals have disappeared from the market. I took a chance because the price is right and this Chuck-it ball works very well so we're liking this ball a lot. So far my Dachsund, who can destroy a tennis ball (the kind they are selling as Nerf Dog replacements) in 3 minutes has not done any damage to this one so that's a win. I recommend this as a much better ball than the fuzzy tennis balls. I like the colors too since many dog toys are green (which gets lost in the lawn, etc.) or red (even though dogs have red/green color blindness. Blue and orange are good and pretty easy to find. I liked these well enough that this set was my second purchase so I will have spares in case the others are lost.
