Earthworks Barossa Shiraz 2023 (Australia)"It's splendidly ripe and expressive on the nose, showing dark plum, blueberry, brown spice, and roasted hazelnut aromas. The palate delivers good weight and plump mouthfeel, beautifully supported by supple texture and fine tannins, making it harmonious and flavoursome with a lengthy, silky finish" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2025 "A fragrant and enticing wine with aromas and flavours of five spice and ripe red berries. "A fragrant and enticing wine with aromas and flavours of five spice and ripe red berries. Plum and boysenberry, raspberry and cherry. Warm and generous, a lighter-ish expression with fine tannins, plenty fo acidity from crunch and freshness. Well made and balanced, perhaps best alongside food or cheese. Best drinking from 2025 through 2030" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jul 2025

"Deep ruby black, even colour throughout. The nose is full, with aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, eucalyptus and spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of ripe plum and blackberry melded with herbs, clove and pepper. The fruit is dark with an uncloying freshness, along with bright acidity lending a flavoursome finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jul 2025

"Drinking well in its youth, this is an ideal, everyday-drinking red. Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with generous, ripe plum, berry and spice flavours, a hint of dark chocolate, a distinct touch of complexity, and supple tannins" Michael Cooper, Aug 2025

Plums and dark fruits with vanilla, cinnamon and clove are entwined with a touch of black tea, bay leaf and blackcurrants. Juicy, fresh and vibrant red fruits, fine, soft tannins and velvety texture.

Great wine starts with great soil, and great soil starts with those who know how to work it. When a group of local families decided to bring their grapes - and over 230 years of winegrowing expertise - together, something very special was born. Founded by families and grown across generations, harvesting the benefits of individual wine wisdom - there’s more to this drop than meets the eye. One only need scratch the surface and discover the stories underneath. Dig a little deeper, and discover earthworks.

Good winter and spring rains kept temperatures down and delayed budburst. Mild conditions through summer and into autumn allowed the grapes to slowly ripen, perfect for flavour development and crafting elegant wines with character.

Shiraz grapes sourced from our Barossa growers are carefully destemmed and crushed into fermenters, where they are gently macerated. Cool fermentation temperatures enhance the rich and generous fruit flavours and soft tannins enjoyed in this Shiraz, while the influence of French oak adds subtle spice and depth.

Food Pairing: Roast beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic and thyme; or grilled vegetable skewers with olive oil, reduced balsamic vinegar, fresh herbs and garlic.

Book for Churchill fans
Format: Hardcover
Not an introduction to Churchill but fills out a period of his life that is often overlooked. Some fascinating insights into people who visited Chartwell. I really enjoyed this book, but it's not for everyone.

An excellent addition to the library of books about the life of Churchill.
Format: Hardcover
Excellent story of Churchill's years in the wilderness, warning of the growing threat of Nazi Germany from 1932 to the early of the war. Thoroughly researched and well written, given the complexities of what was going on contemporaneously.

Just like the PBS series....
Format: Hardcover
This book is a step, or two, deeper into the 'wilderness years' than the PBS series by the same name. But frankly, the series, available on YouTube, is a better buy (it's free) for the money and quite entertaining due to its great casting with folks like Robert Hardy, Sian Phillips, and Eric Porter. But, if you're a reader, this book is worth the effort and cost.

A great book about a great estate and the great man who inhabited it.
Format: Kindle
Carter does a superb job of accurately recounting the history of Chartwell and the people and events that made it such a special place.
