The natural Old Mine Cut diamonds in these platinum earrings are stunning—and the simple design of the earrings highlight their beauty. Each earring contains a fat pear-shaped Old Mine Cut diamond dangling from a round Old Mine Cut diamond, connected by a platinum bar set behind the stones to give the illusion the diamonds are floating. The understated setting is perfect for such an excellent selection of stones. The pear-shaped diamonds have beautiful chunky facets and visible open culets. Held in place by four prongs and an open-back mount, the diamonds can be seen from all angles. The result is tons of gorgeous sparkle and reflected light. The round diamonds are incredible as well, and their prong setting perfectly blends into the diamond, as if the prongs were part of the stones’ many facets.
The earrings are unmarked but test as platinum. The backs are marked as 750 for 18K gold. The settings appear to be handmade for these particular diamonds, and though we aren’t able to identify when, we suspect the settings can be attributed to the Art Deco era. The antique diamonds are older than the earrings.
The natural diamonds have a combined weight of 2 carats. They are well-matched. The pear diamonds measure 6.7 x 4.75 x 3.5 mm and 6.75 x 4.8 x 3.5 mm and the round diamonds measure 4.1 mm and 3.9 mm. They are VS1 in clarity and G-H in color.
Each earring is 5/8” tall. Combined, the earrings weigh 2.93 grams. The earrings have very secure tension backs that can only be removed when pressed on in two places.
