The estate has experienced various changes in status over the last 50 years. Until 1983 it was the second wine of La Mission Haut-Brion. When Domaine Clarence Dillon took over the chateaus of La Mission and La Tour, it took on an identity in its own right briefly. However La Tour's final vintage was to be in 2005, after the owners decided to discontinue the label. Since then, the fruit from La Tour Haut-Brion has been used in the production of Château La Mission Haut-Brion and second wine La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion.
A nose of plum compote, currants, black olive, mint, and cedar. Full bodied with generous sweet black fruits and a good measure of tannins. Quite masculine, broad and robust winemaking on show here, but could certainly be visited with decantation.
One of the final vintages of the label and well worth consideration.
