The main goal of the book is to provide a comprehensive and self-contained proof of the, relatively recent, theorem of characterization of the strong maximum principle due to Molina-Meyer and the author, published in Diff. Int. Eqns. in 1994, which was later refined by Amann and the author in a paper published in J. of Diff. Eqns. in 1998. Besides this characterization has been shown to be a pivotal result for the development of the modern theory of spatially heterogeneous nonlinear elliptic and parabolic problems; it has allowed us to update the classical theory on the maximum and minimum principles by providing with some extremely sharp refinements of the classical results of Hopf and Protter-Weinberger. By a celebrated result of Berestycki, Nirenberg and Varadhan, Comm. Pure Appl. Maths. in 1994, the characterization theorem is partially true under no regularity constraints on the support domain for Dirichlet boundary conditions.Instead of encyclopedic generality, this book pays special attention to completeness, clarity and transparency of its exposition so that it can be taught even at an advanced undergraduate level. Adopting this perspective, it is a textbook; however, it is simultaneously a research monograph about the maximum principle, as it brings together for the first time in the form of a book, the most paradigmatic classical results together with a series of recent fundamental results scattered in a number of independent papers by the author of this book and his collaborators.Chapters 3, 4, and 5 can be delivered as a classical undergraduate, or graduate, course in Hilbert space techniques for linear second order elliptic operators, and Chaps. 1 and 2 complete the classical results on the minimum principle covered by the paradigmatic textbook of Protter and Weinberger by incorporating some recent classification theorems of supersolutions by Walter, 1989, and the author, 2003. Consequently, these five chapters can be taught at an undergraduate, or graduate, level. Chapters 6 and 7 study the celebrated theorem of Krein-Rutman and infer from it the characterizations of the strong maximum principle of Molina-Meyer and Amann, in collaboration with the author, which have been incorporated to a textbook by the first time here, as well as the results of Chaps. 8 and 9, polishing some recent joint work of Cano-Casanova with the author. Consequently, the second half of the book consists of a more specialized monograph on the maximum principle and the underlying principal eigenvalues.Shipping Notes

Don’t but this…

The holder came quickly and isn’t that bad but mounts with a huge adhesive backing, which again isn’t;t bad, but it was sent in a plastic bad, like a zip lock bag. The adhesive backing has NO protecvtyive strip on it, so it is covered in lint and debris and was sticking to the bag it was sent in.

I just hope it will last for a long time

The material is not cheap, I mean it’s a really good silicone!
Very easy to use out of the box, and it did fit two of my bricks.
All I hope is that it will last for a long time stuck under my desk since I had to stick my bricks upside down.

Works great. Keeps things nice and tidy.

Works great! I regularly use the end of my dining table as a spot to use my laptop and really wanted a more organized way of keeping the cord tidy. This of course would also easily work on a desk as well
It's completely made from a nice stretchy and durable silicone and could accommodate pretty good size chargers. My charger is pretty small so it doesn't fit tightly, but it still works perfectly. It's also super easy to install. The reverse side of this has really strong adhesive to hold onto whatever flat surface you attach it to. Mine is adhered to the underside of a wood table and so far it doesn't appear to have any issues with it. I should mention that since it's held on by adhesive, it's not something you can easily move after installed, so put it where you want it to permanently be. That said, for the price you can easily get a second or a third one if you need it in multiple locations.
Overall, it works great and it really keeps my laptop charger off the floor and everything is nice and tidy.

Nice, BUT a few mounting holes would have made it 5 stars!

These seem to be fine but since I have to use this to hold a power brick to a wood joist which is NOT smooth, the included adhesive back is not something that will hold securely! I ended up have to screw two wafer head screws through the rubber backing and into the joist to hold the holder to the wood joist securely. If they put some thought into the design, it would have been nice, if they had incorporated a few mounting holes, which would have taken care if this being mounted to items that are not smooth such as a wood joist or other rough surfaces!
