About the artwork
This early 1900s sepia-toned studio portrait depicts Prince Yi Gang, also known as Prince Imperial Ui, dressed in full court attire. He wears a dark, embroidered silk robe featuring the hyungbae (흉배) insignia on his chest — a visual marker of his high rank — and a traditional samo (사모) ceremonial hat.
Framed in the oval style typical of official imperial documentation, the portrait reflects the solemnity and status of Korea’s royal court.
