The tree is a native of the Himalayas and was discovered by Joseph Hooker. It was named after Victor Jacquemont, the French naturalist.

The White Stem Birch tree is fully hardy and easy to grow. It prefers medium to wet soil, but can also thrive in warmer, dryer climates.
