Therefore, we recommend using Samurai Foaming Soap or distilled water instead of green soap or witch hazel, to achieve the best possible outcome.

Lidocaine is a valuable tool for keeping clients comfortable, but its numbing power can be dramatically reduced depending on what is used on the skin during the tattoo process.

Green Soap – Can reduce lidocaine’s effectiveness by up to 50%. The surfactants in green soap strip the lidocaine from the skin’s surface and disrupt absorption.

Witch Hazel – May cut numbing power by 30–40%. Its astringent properties constrict pores and blood vessels, reducing lidocaine penetration.

Alcohol – Can decrease effectiveness by 40–60%. Alcohol quickly dissolves lidocaine molecules and evaporates them off the skin.

Once these products are introduced, the numbing effect drops quickly, shortening comfort time for your client. 

✅ Best Practice for Maximum Effectiveness:

Use distilled water or Samurai Vegan Soap for wiping and cleaning during the tattoo process. These will not break down lidocaine and allow the numbing agent to remain active longer.

❌ Avoid using green soap, witch hazel, or alcohol once lidocaine has been applied.
