Flixotide Description
Flixotide is an inhaler used to prevent and manage asthma.
It's a steroid medication that helps to reduce inflammation in the airways.
Comes in two inhaler types: Evohaler (metered dose) and Accuhaler (dry powder)

What is Flixotide?

Flixotide asthma inhalers, produced by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), help prevent asthma symptoms. They contain fluticasone propionate, a steroid that eases irritation in the lungs.

Flixotide inhalers are known as 'preventer' inhalers. They aren't meant for immediate relief during an asthma attack. Instead, you use them to prevent your asthma symptoms from flaring up, like reducing swelling, which lowers the risk of asthma attacks.

Flixotide inhalers come in two types: the accuhaler and the evohaler.

How are Flixotide Accuhaler and Evohaler different?

All asthma inhalers have specific colours. Flixotide inhalers are orange, and people often call them 'your orange inhaler'.

Flixotide orange inhalers come in two types: the evohaler and the accuhaler. They both have the same ingredients, but they look different.

The Flixotide Evohaler is the type of inhaler most people imagine. It's an orange inhaler shaped like an 'L', with a canister inside that you press to release the Flixotide into your lungs. When you use it, it creates a fine spray or mist.

When you press the top of the canister, a fixed dose is released. To inhale the dose into your lungs, make sure to breathe in as you press the canister.

The accuhaler comes in a round container instead of the usual 'L' shaped one. It's an orange inhaler with flixotide, similar to the evohaler, but it dispenses a dry powder instead of a fine spray. The accuhaler provides a fixed dose of powdered flixotide directly to the lungs.

How does Flixotide work?

Flixotide inhalers have fluticasone propionate as their active ingredient. Fluticasone is part of a group of medicines known as corticosteroids, or simply steroids.

The body naturally makes the steroid needed to manage inflammation in the lungs. People with asthma need a Flixotide inhaler because they require more of this steroid than their body can produce.

The active ingredients in the inhaler are absorbed by the cells in your lungs, preventing them from releasing the chemicals that lead to inflammation.

What doses of Flixotide are there?

Flixotide Evohalers are available in various strengths. Your clinician will determine the most suitable dosage for you.

The Flixotide Evohaler comes in three different dose sizes:

Flixotide 50 micrograms

Initial dose for children aged four to 16
Flixotide Evohaler 50mcg isn't advised for children younger than four years old.

Flixotide 125 micrograms

Often prescribed for adults and children over 16 with mild to moderate asthma
Flixotide Evohaler 125mcg is not advised for children under 16 years old.

Flixotide 250 micrograms

Often prescribed for adults and children over 16 with moderate to severe asthma
Flixotide Evohaler 250mcg is typically prescribed if a lower dose hasn't managed to ease your symptoms.

The Flixotide Accuhaler is available in four different dosage strengths:

Flixotide 50 micrograms

Initial dose for children aged four to 16
Flixotide accuhaler 50mcg is not advised for children younger than four years old.

Flixotide 100 micrograms

Often prescribed for adults and children with mild asthma
Flixotide Accuhaler 100mcg is not suitable for children younger than four years old.

Flixotide 250 micrograms

Often prescribed for adults and children over 16 who have moderate asthma
Flixotide accuhaler 250mcg is not recommended for children younger than 16 years old.

Flixotide 500 micrograms

Often prescribed for adults and children over 16 with severe asthma
Flixotide accuhaler 500mcg isn't suitable for children younger than 16.

Flixotide nebules are used with a device known as a nebuliser. Each nebule holds 2ml of liquid, containing 0.5mg of fluticasone.

What should I do if Flixotide doesn’t work?

If you find that your inhaler isn't managing your asthma symptoms effectively, please get in touch with our clinician. If your breathing suddenly worsens, it's important to seek medical help immediately or go to hospital without delay.

As with any medicine, the Flixotide Accuhaler and Flixotide Evohaler might cause side effects. If you experience any, have a look at the information leaflet included with your medication for guidance.

How often can you take Flixotide?

You usually use the Flixotide Evohaler and Accuhaler twice daily.

If you think your inhaler isn't managing your asthma properly, it's crucial to get in touch with our clinician. Indicators that your asthma might not be well controlled include:

1
wheezing
2
shortness of breath
3
coughing
4
chest tightness

Can you get Flixotide over the counter?

Flixotide is only available with a prescription, so our clinician will need to assess your symptoms to determine if it's a safe and appropriate option for you. It can cause side effects like a sore throat, hoarseness, or a chest infection.

and if you're particularly prone to any or have allergies to any of the ingredients in the treatment, our clinician will consider these factors.

Is Flixotide the same as Flovent?

Not exactly. Both inhalers have the same active ingredient, fluticasone, but they aren't identical. Flovent's dosage is based on the amount of medicine released from the canister, while Flixotide's dosage is based on the amount delivered from the mouthpiece.

Flovent is available in the USA, but you won't find it in the UK. Both are produced by the same company, GSK.

Can you get Flixotide cream?

Yes, but Flixotide cream is meant for treating skin conditions such as eczema, not asthma.

Are there other inhalers similar to Flixotide?

Flixotide has an active ingredient called fluticasone propionate.

While there aren't any inhalers that are exactly the same as flixotide evohalers and accuhalers, there are other inhalers with steroids that work in a similar manner.

Is Flixotide a steroid inhaler?

Will Flixotide help me if I’m having an asthma attack?

No, Flixotide is a preventer inhaler, which means it helps manage your asthma symptoms. If you're having an asthma attack, you'll need a reliever inhaler. Combination inhalers, such as Seretide, provide both prevention and relief, but they function differently from Flixotide.

Here's all the official information about it. If there's anything you're unsure about, just let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

Great for chewers!
Size: Large, Color: Ball-Blue
We have a super high energy one year old pup who destroys practically every toy she gets. This one is excellent! It makes a fun but not annoying sound and she hasn’t been able to destroy it yet. The test hole is a fun addition to keep her busy.

My Dog Loved It—Until It Stopped Working
Size: Large, Color: Ball-Red
I purchased this treat-dispensing dog toy for my German Shepherd, and for the first couple of days it worked exactly as advertised. When rolled or tossed, it made an engaging sound that immediately caught my dog’s attention and encouraged him to interact with the toy to get the treats out. He absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, after only a few days, the sound feature stopped working. Then it mysteriously started working again for a short period, so I thought the issue had resolved itself. However, it has now stopped completely. No matter how much I shake, roll, or toss the toy, it no longer makes any sound. I went out of town and didn’t realize the return window had passed while I was gone. By the time I returned, the return deadline had already expired, which was disappointing because I would have returned it when the problem first appeared. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing this toy. While many of the reviews seem positive, perhaps I received a defective unit. It’s disappointing that it stopped functioning properly after barely a month of use. That said, my dog genuinely enjoyed it when it was working, and I would appreciate it if the manufacturer would stand behind their product and offer a replacement as a courtesy. I would be happy to return the defective toy. If a replacement performed as intended, I would gladly reconsider my opinion. For now, however, I am very disappointed with the functionality and reliability of this product.
