Winter Storms

Along with a high school friend who served as my best man when I finally married, I had lived in Huntington Beach from 1975 until 1978 when a loft space was found in downtown Santa Ana while I was attending UCI. When redevelopment forced me to move in 1982, the timing for both of us was such that we both again found a Huntington Beach home, and I found another loft on Main Street.

After again moving the studio to Huntington Beach the pier again became a focus in my life for walks and inspiration. At that time, Maxwell's Restaurant was at the base of the pier on the upper level, and there were various arcades, snack bars and beach accessory rental concessions on the sand level. Out on the pier there were four concessions. These were a snack bar, a wet bar, a bait shop and the End Cafe.

Around 1983, huge storm waves undermined but did not completely remove the original End Cafe. While a Channel 4 news helicopter hovered for hours waiting to film the final break, I sat in the rain and painted an oil painting and a watercolor of the pier as it sat. I had to turn to watercolor when a waterspout blew through and sent my painting materials in many directions, breaking my paint box, that my grandmother had given me in the 4th grade, while the water greatly "antiqued" a small wooden painting table I used for location work. I still have — and use — both.

By December 1987, the new End Cafe had been built, and from the deck of Maxwell's, a watercolor pen and ink of the Huntington Pier was created. The light is decidedly Winter, there are only a few people on the beach, and Catalina is clear as only that time of year.

The woman who owned the two bar concessions purchased the original and from these proceeds the edition was created which originally sold only from her Neptune's Locker. Less than one month after this painting was completed, another storm developed huge waves. The pier and the ocean were only one block down from the studio. As I drove away early that sunny day for some errands, I remarked how large the waves were. And even though I don't remember any wind and rain, the next morning the new End Cafe was gone. It had disappeared in the middle of the night.

Works perfectly. No more multiple steps clutter.
Under our entertainment unit we have 9 separate plugs and we want the electronics on a surge protector. I had used the 6-socket surge protectors I had on hand and ended up having to use 3 strips to plug in my 9 components because some of the plugs were bulky and covered more than one plug. It was a mess. This solves the problem. The way the 2 sockets on this strip are offset from the rest, I was able to plug in my bulky plugs without covering any extra plugs so I ended up with 9 more sockets than I needed, but I would rather have too many sockets than not enough. Before plugging in my components I checked each and every socket on this power strip and all 18 sockets work perfectly. Also, I had no problems getting my plugs to fit, unlike some of the reviewers who complained about the sockets being too tight. The power strip is light weight, but it seems well-made and sturdy. I like the 8-foot cord length which made it easy for me to position the power strip where I wanted it. A 6-foot cord would have been a little short.

It's a 7'cord Not a True 8' cord
It's a 7 ft cord the 8 ft they count is the actual plug unit which if you add that totals 8 ft at the very end of the plug unit. Again to clarify the cord only is 7 ft only. The USB ports are not that fast charging I still had to put my fast charger into one of the plug slots not the USB slot and charge my phone off of a plug. The USB would be satisfactory for things that just sit around on the desk. The overall size of the plug unit and the number of plug ports and USB ports is good for my needs for the price that they asked. It came shipped well packaged and on time. I think that overall it's worth the price if you keep the above things in mind that the cord itself is only 7 ft and the USB ports do not fast charge to the same degree that a fast charging USB plug unit would make your device rapid charge. Personally I feel that saying that the cord is 8 ft when it's only 7 ft and trying to include the plug unit into the length of the cord which by name they are totally different things is misleading and a false advertisement on the part of the seller or any seller that does their ad to the customer's disadvantage or misinformation. I was really counting on the cord being a true 8-ft not including the plug unit. That's how I measured according to my needs and it wasn't a true 8 ft cord.

Plug and play
Lots of plugs, USB plugs, and lots of room for plugs. What more could you ask for? This works great. Like everyone else I feel like everything is electronic anymore. Our house was built in the 70’s so our plug to room ratio isn’t so high. These are great to help with all of the items that need power. Great price, design and works great!

Finding a good plug strip without blasted usb ports
It was surprisingly difficult to find a good plug strip that did NOT have USB ports. The last thing I want on a plug strip that I'm going to stuff behind a bunch of monitors are usb port electronics that might die after a few years. I get my usb power ports from an Anker that I can situate on the desk. So, A+ ... this plugstrip has no USB ports! Yahhhh! That and other things I liked about it: * Yippee! A plug strip that doesn't waste space adding USB power ports that I will never use. * Very good plug layout. With all the adapters and misc plug types I needed to plug in, I thought that I might waste too many sockets with covering cords or adapter plastic. But it turned out that I was able to arrange all the plugs and adapters with very little 'wastage'. * Having two orientations in the design made a much bigger difference than I thought it would. Kudos! * And spacing out a few of the plugs also made a huge positive difference, reducing covering wastage from those odd-ball adapters that just like to take up a lot of space. The only thing I can dock this strip for is that I gave it four stars for sturdiness, simply because sometimes a plug would 'catch' on something inside the strip if I didn't push it in exactly straight. Not a big deal really, so I gotta give this guy 5 stars overall. -Matt
