Renowned for being the largest, most powerful of vertebrates in prehistory, the Megalodon Carcharodon had a profound impact on the marine Miocene environment. Evident in the extraordinary discoveries of modern times from the Miocene to the Pliocene epochs (the Neogene period), preying on ancient, miniature whales (Piscobalaena nana) and large seals. Reaching a maximum length of 16 - 18 meters, approximately 52 - 59 ft and Megalodon's build was stockier than that of modern-day species.
