The Ankylosaurus was a heavily armored dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. One of the most distinctive features of the Ankylosaurus is its massive tail club. This formidable weapon was made of several tightly-knit vertebrae, which were enveloped in a thick layer of bone. The tail club could reach lengths of up to 60 centimeters (2 feet) and it is believed that the Ankylosaurus used this mighty weapon to defend itself against predators. This makes the Ankylosaurus one of the few known dinosaurs with such a specialized form of defense.
