Viewed from altitude, the clouds spread out below like the surface of an enormous cake, white, billowing, perfectly formed cumulus rising from a patchwork of green and brown fields far beneath. Into this vast aerial patisserie, a pair of elegant hands, terracotta nails, a white piping bag, a silver nozzle are piping. Carefully. Precisely. The way a pastry chef pipes cream onto a mille feuille, or meringue onto a lemon tart, or the final flourish onto something that is already almost perfect and needs only this.

Piping Clouds works because it holds two readings simultaneously and neither cancels the other. In one reading, this is a pastry chef at work, the clouds are whipped cream, the sky is the kitchen, the scale is simply a matter of ambition. In the other, this is Mother Nature at the beginning of something, building a cloudscape the way a chef builds a dessert, layer by layer, with intention and craft, before the weather turns and the storm arrives. Both readings are correct. Both are beautiful.
