More refined than most around, the Dolcetto d’Alba Roussot from Franceso Rinaldi is a fruit-forward, mouth-filling red with lots of attractive, floral aromas. The palate is round and plush, with lots of plum and juicy black berry character leading to a fresh and smooth finish. A delicious drop that breathes life back into this often-forgotten Piedmontese red wine.

Piedmontese Dolcetto often plays third string to Nebbiolo and Barbera, it ripens easier and earlier than its more famous siblings and so it is often demoted to north facing, cooler vineyards sites where Nebbiolo and Barbera would struggle to ripen. But Francesco Rinaldi have a long-standing faith in this variety and therefore, quite uniquely, they grow their Dolcetto grapes in the middle of one of their most prized Barolo vineyards, Cannubi. Giving this variety some overdue attention pays dividends in the glass with wonderfully perfumed, violet tinged plum fruit character, a velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins. Only spending time in stainless steel, Francesco Rinaldi present us their Dolcetto without costume and boy does it look good!
