Dermabond Advanced™ from Ethicon is a 2-octyl cyanoacrylate topical skin adhesive designed for fast, reliable closure of surgical incisions and traumatic lacerations without sutures at the skin surface. Its unique high viscosity formulation flows precisely where you need it and polymerizes quickly on contact with tissue, forming a flexible, waterproof bond that holds the wound edges together while the body heals underneath.

Why Dermabond Advanced™

Unlike standard tissue adhesives, Dermabond Advanced™ combines a precision applicator tip for fine line work with a dome tip for broader surface coverage giving clinicians control across a range of wound geometries. When used alongside deep dermal sutures, it has been shown ex vivo to add 75% more tensile strength to the closure compared to sutures alone. The adhesive also provides an in vitro microbial barrier with greater than 99% protection against common SSI-associated organisms for up to 72 hours post application.

Indications

Indicated for topical application to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of wounds from surgical incisions including minimally invasive puncture sites and simple, thoroughly cleansed traumatic lacerations. May be used in conjunction with, but not as a replacement for, deep dermal sutures. Not intended for use on mucous membranes, eyes, or infected wounds.
