Converted to metric: 6,35mm, 9,5mm, 12,7mm and 15,9mm. Some are even capable of handling a 3 4' chisel, but keep in mind that this is a pretty healthy chunk to cut at one time and may require a lot of physical exertion. Hollow Square Mortise Chisel

Size: 3/8 inch [9,5mm]

Most mortisers are equipped to handle 1/4', 3/8', 1/2' and 5/8 square chisels.
Converted to metric: 6,35mm, 9,5mm, 12,7mm and 15,9mm.

Some are even capable of handling a 3/4' chisel, but keep in mind that this is a pretty healthy chunk to cut at one time and may require a lot of physical exertion. Remember that even if you're cutting a mortise that is 3/4' wide, you don't need to cut the entire width in one pass. A few cuts down one side of the mortise and then back up the other with achisel will be just as effective and not nearly as taxing on you as the operator.

Advantages:

  • Faster than a chisel by hand
  • Consistent in size
  • Strong joints
  • Reliable joints
  • Looks good
  • Large glue surfaces enhancing the strength
  • Convenient
The hollow square mortise chisel

The hollow square mortise chisel is used in a drill press attachment or mortising machine, similar to a drill press in many respects, combines the cutting of a four-sided chisel with the action of a drill bit in the centre. The bit clears out most of the material to be removed, and the chisel ensures the edges are straight and clean. This device was invented in 1874 by Robert and Ralph Greenlee.

Square chisel mortising bits can also be fitted to normal drill presses using a mortising attachment as shown on the left. [Click here to view] - Available from Tork Craft.

The chisel kit is made from a square, four sided chisel with an auger bit inside.  The auger bit is sized perfectly to fit inside the four sided chisel.  The machine spins the auger bit removing a circular column of material and the chisel comes up behind it to square away the rounded edges. The way the chisel works is through downward pressure by the user. The harder the wood, the more difficult it is to plunge down.  At the end of the process you get a really clean mortise.

Mortise and Tenon joints are strong and reliable joints. This joint can be seen in timeless furniture pieces and is testimony to its long-lasting capabilities. This joint gives support from all sides and has a large amount of glue surface.

When working on a project that calls for multiple mortise and tenon joints, hand-cutting them all would involve tedious hard labour, resulting with inconsistent joints. In a situation when you need to produce multiple mortises, there is no better option than a hollow-chisel mortiser.

What I've been looking for
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Just got my Nero Ball. Only used it once, but really like it. I've tried other "ball on a string" type toys, with unsatisfactory results. I'll be using it as a training reward, and my boy, who is a pretty ferocious tugger, is going to learn 2 new things with this ball. 1st, to target the ball instead of the rope, and 2nd, that it's for a little gentle tugging instead of the full throttle stuff he does otherwise. After our 1st session with the Nero Ball, he's picking up on the new rules quickly. We'll see how it does long term, but I think this is one I'll stay with. *UPDATE* Been using my Nero Ball for a month now. I'm tempted to call it the 'Hero Ball' because it's just that terrific!! For me, the key has been putting in the time to allow both myself & my dog to develop the skill to use this tool smoothly. May sound strange, but using a toy as a training reward requires practice, and each different toy configuration requires different handling. It's time well spent - we're both having a lot of fun! Kudos to the designer of this ball. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the length & material of the rope (just the right length that the dog won't step on it; material is easy on the hand while still being tough enough to withstand a few toothy grabs; the loop is the perfect size to grab for a little tug or to pass the ball through to slip-knot it onto a belt loop). The ball is also just right. The knobs make it non-slip, the rubber eliminates tennis ball fuzz concerns, and being semi-hard and hollow makes it slightly compress-able, which makes it a higher value reward than a solid ball that can't be compressed. While this ball will not work for every application or for every dog, if you carefully read & understand the information provided and don't expect it to work outside those parameters, you will be pleasantly surprised by a very well designed, well constructed tool that you can use to enhance your training or play sessions with your dog.

Nice toy
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
This product is generally durable and easy to throw. However, the original rope knot came undone after just four throws, per my wife. Unfortunately, my knot-tying skills are limited to fishing knots and slip knots, which is on me. While I can't give a perfect score, I believe it deserves a 4.5 out of 5 stars due to the knot issue. A simple solution would be to apply heat shrink tubing over the knot and heat it to secure it, which would enhance its reliability and potentially elevate the rating to a perfect five stars.

Our German Shepherd loves it!
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Order arrived promptly and in good condition. Our GSD barely let us get it out of the package before wanting to play with it. Works great as training reward and for fetch games. Been using it for three weeks, and it is holding up well.

I think this family company improved the strength of the rope staying in the ball
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
I bought two of these balls when I needed to replace my old ones. After I got them I decided to read some reviews and I noticed people were complaining about their rope pulling through easily and their dog chewing through the rope fast. First of all this strictly is a ball for reward and yes tug as a reward while training mostly working dogs and sport dogs so the rope is designed perfectly for that reason. It’s not a chew toy. And as for the rope pulling through easily. I have a big male shepherd over 100 lbs who I was participating in a dog sport with a lot of Really strong tugging and this ball stood up to it perfectly. I think they must have taken advice from the reviews and improved the b-ball if people were having the issue of the rope coming out and someone had suggested putting a piece of something inside the ball to hold the rope in better and now there is one so I would feel fine about suggesting this ball as a reward and training ball. My dog loves them!
