COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Work Safely in the Vocational Education Sector course. This program is designed to equip trainers, assessors, educators, and staff in vocational education and training (VET) institutions with the knowledge and skills necessary to create and maintain a safe learning environment. Workplace safety is crucial in VET settings due to the diverse and practical nature of training activities, which often involve workshops, laboratories, and fieldwork. Ensuring the health and safety of both trainers and students not only enhances learning outcomes but also ensures compliance with legal obligations under Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws.

The course begins with an overview of the key provisions of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, highlighting the responsibilities of employers, trainers, and employees in ensuring a safe workplace. You will learn about the various state and territory-specific WHS regulations that apply to your role and institution, ensuring that you understand your legal responsibilities in safeguarding the well-being of students and staff.

Identifying potential hazards in VET settings is critical for maintaining safety. Whether in a workshop, classroom, or laboratory, it’s essential to assess and manage risks. The course will teach you how to recognise common hazards, conduct risk assessments, and report and manage hazards effectively, ensuring a proactive approach to safety management.

Creating a safe learning environment is not only about identifying hazards but also about designing spaces that minimise risks. This course will explore how to set up classrooms and practical training areas safely, including guidelines on the use of tools, equipment, and technology. You’ll learn how to implement risk management plans tailored to practical training sessions to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Manual handling and ergonomics are important components of safety in the VET sector. Trainers and students alike need to understand best practices for lifting, carrying, and working in ergonomically safe positions to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. We will cover practical strategies for maintaining safety through manual handling protocols and ergonomically sound workstations.

In addition to these fundamental safety measures, the course will address the safe use of tools, equipment, and chemicals in vocational education. You’ll learn how to train students in the proper use of machinery, maintain equipment to prevent accidents, and handle hazardous substances in line with WHS guidelines, including the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Fire safety and emergency response are also key topics in this course. You will gain an understanding of fire prevention strategies, how to use fire safety equipment, and how to conduct fire drills and evacuation procedures. Basic first aid training will be covered, ensuring you’re prepared to handle medical emergencies and accidents in a training environment.

Workplace bullying and harassment prevention, mental health and well-being, and infection control are all important aspects of creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. You’ll learn how to recognise and address bullying, provide mental health support, and implement hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Finally, we’ll cover safety in off-site training activities such as field trips, as well as in online learning environments, addressing cybersecurity, privacy, and mental health risks associated with remote learning. The course concludes with strategies for the continuous improvement of safety practices, including conducting safety audits, reviewing WHS policies, and gathering feedback from students and staff to make ongoing safety enhancements.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of how to maintain and improve workplace safety in the VET sector, ensuring a secure and conducive learning environment for all.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Soft and comfy!
Color: 06- Beige, Size: Throw (50" X 60")
The material is very soft and thick, but not to the point where it makes me feel hot. The only reason why it hasn't received five stars is because I ordered the twin size thinking it would give me good coverage (and I didn't want to order a bigger size), but it's just an inch or two too small for my body. But it's not a big deal. I love the quality too! You will get your money's worth for sure.

Best Blanket Ever!!
Color: 16- Dusty Pink, Size: Twin (60" X 80"), Color: 16- Dusty Pink, Size: Twin (60" X 80")
I am in LOVE with this blanket. I got the dusty Rose, the color is Spot On to the pics. It's perfect size, I bought the twin size. It's reversible, and is Super Soft. Plus, No Shedding. Well made, perfect blanket, it's thick yet but not overly making it perfect for year round. Definitely, worth the money. I sleep great with it. It's so pretty, I love it. Will but again in other colors as well.

Color: 12- Sage Green, Size: Queen (90" X 90")
Extrmely comfortable and my wife absolutely loved it. Probably the most comfortable blanket i've ever bought. Now if only she would share it with me! Kidding...but I absolutely suggest this, if you're looking for a heavyish very soft and comfortable blanket.

You will not regret buying this blanket!
Color: Aqua, Size: Queen/King Size - 80" X 90"
I was actually looking for a cotton blanket to add to my bed for fall and winter. Then I came across THIS one. It happens to be the exact shade of (“seaglass” or teal or aqua or whatever you choose to call it) blue green that I am currently redoing my bedroom in. It was a teense more than I’d planned to spend on this project. But I was in a splurgey mood so I went for it. I can honesty say that I’d happily pay twice as much. It’s much more beautiful and much more insanely soft than it looks in the pictures. While I don’t know how the blanket feels about me, I can assure you that I am madly in love with this gorgeous thing! I can’t wait for it to cool off in Southern California so I can roll myself up in it. Maybe I’ll crank the A/C down to 50 degrees and pretend there are more than two seasons (summer and late summer) in California. Anyway, this would make a great gift. It would make a great gift for yourself. Self care is important! Spoil yourself! You, at the very least, deserve a cozy cuddly blanket. I’m certain that this luxurious blanket will cure insomnia. Maybe even depression. I’ve owned it for like 2 hours and I have a whole new outlook on life! I feel pampered, spoiled, like queen of the world, maybe even like Cleopatra! I think that it should be obvious by now that I’m giving this furry looking blanket two thumbs way way up! Sometimes I order things from Amazon and by the time they arrive Ive already forgotten about them. I was anxiously awaiting my blanket friends arrival and I was prepared to be very meh. Not this time! Nope! Best purchase ever! I know what I’m getting everyone for Christmas! Buy several for future use. This blanket has made me deliriously happy! Update: After owning this blanket for, like, a while, I still love it. Shockingly it washes up beautifully! A word of advice. Fabric softener is a big no no. It gets the fur gummy and feeling like unwashed hair after a month. I imagine. I’ve personally never gone with unwashed hair for more than a day or two. It is at its fluffy and soft best when you use one of those new Downey rinses instead. That seems to remove all residue and it comes out feeling even better than brand new. A word of warning. Do not picnic on this blanket. The fur will encase and preserve your crumbs better than Tupperware. You may find a lost treasure that you don’t actually want in there. Best used for sleeping only.
