Journey through Japan's illustrated history and discover the roots of manga before it took the world by storm. In this compelling survey, art historian Andreas Marks traces the development of Japanese illustrated books in premodern times. As early as the 17th century, Japanese publishers were producing thousands of illustrated titles on subjects ranging from religion and poetry to celebrated beauties, famous kabuki actors, farting warriors, and adventure tales. This flourishing book culture laid the foundation for the vibrant manga and comics industry of today.
Marks explores this evolution through five key works,
Kitagawa Utamaro's Illustrated Book of Selected Creatures (1788) — a beautifully illustrated collection of plants and animals paired with poetry.Hokusai's Sketchbooks (early 1800s) — featuring hundreds of innovative drawing and design ideas by Katsushika Hokusai, whose work influenced many renowned European artists. The New Illustrated Water Margin — Hokusai's adaptation of a Chinese novel about a band of fictional heroes with superpowers, offering a bold reimagining of the story. The Tale of Shiranui (1849 - 1910) — an adventure novel serialized over six decades. The early-20th-century Current Affairs Manga — the first periodical to use the word "manga" in its title, providing illustrated commentary on contemporary political events.
Japan's Manga Revolution offers the first comprehensive overview of Japan's rich tradition of illustrated storytelling and its lasting impact on visual culture worldwide.

Extremely poor quality. Too flexible!
Size: 1000 Teaspoons
Poor quality, flimsy, barely strong enough to stir my coffee. Not strong enough to use for eating even semi-solid food. Too much flex!

Strong and Durable, Great for Large Garbage Cans
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
I’ve got a large garbage can for a big family, and in the past, every other brand of bag I tried would always slip down when filling it, turning trash day into a messy nightmare. I finally decided to look for a heavy-duty, extra-large bag and found these 30-gallon Glad bags—and I’m glad I did.
I even tested three different brands to see which one I liked best, and these came out on top by far. They’re rip-resistant, strong, and extra roomy, making them perfect for a busy household. Even if they’re a little more expensive than other bags, the durability and reliability make them totally worth the extra cost. No more wrestling with sagging trash bags!

Been Using These for Years
Scent: Unscented, Size: 50 Count (Pack of 1)
I have been using these Glad 30 gallon ForceFlex trash bags for years and they never disappoint. The black color looks clean, they are thick and strong, and the unscented option is perfect if you do not want artificial smells. They hold up well with heavy trash, resist leaks, and the drawstrings make them easy to tie and carry. Great quality and worth the price.
