The 1931 Gold fountain pen, inspired by the original Model 111, was introduced in 1997 as a limited edition of 5,000 pieces. The pen’s name honors its predecessor, originally known as the Pelikan Gold.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this model features a black celluloid cap and barrel, complemented by a hard rubber piston knob and section. Its standout feature is the Binde, or overlay, is made of 18-karat gold, adorned with alternating bands of plain stripes and an intricate guilloche pattern. The gold barrel is engraved with the marking "Au750 18CT PF," while the piston knob includes an arrow indicating its turning direction.
The pen's fittings are equally impressive, featuring an 18-karat gold-plated drop clip and double cap bands. The cap is inscribed with “Pelikan” in green fill using the original-style font, with the limited edition number engraved on the reverse side. The cap top prominently displays the vintage four-chick Pelikan logo, used by the brand until 1938.
Additional features include a dark amber ink window located just behind the section and an 18-karat yellow gold nib engraved with “PF” in a script style. "PF" refers to the German city of Pforzheim which has historically been a center for high-quality goldsmithing and precious metalwork. Unlike the original Model 111, this modern rendition employs a synthetic seal for the piston mechanism, enhancing durability and reliability.
Measuring 4.58 inches when capped and 6.18 inches when posted, the pen has a diameter of 0.46 inches and weighs 0.63 ounces. It offers an ink capacity of approximately 1.25ml, making it as functional as it is elegant—a true collector’s piece that pays homage to Pelikan’s rich heritage.
