The newly distilled liquor is diluted with water to 50% ABV before storing solely in French Limousin oak barrels and set aside for aging. After aging for 4 years in white Limousin oak, whose larger pores facilitate the exchange between the rum oxygen in the surrounding air, Barbancourt 4 year old rum possesses light delicate flavors.
