Durand Jones's Wait 'Til I Get Over is a memoir and a love letter.
It is the story of Jones's life, his growth and revelations, the wisdom of his hometown and the wisdom he could only gain once he left. In it, he writes through Hillaryville's contradictions: the pristine beauty and the ragged roads; his teenage desire to leave and his adult desire to honor his tangled roots; the plantation history and the ups and downs of the Black community that made homes of this reparation town. "Hometowns have a way of keeping a part of you," says Jones, "and if I'm making something young-me would be proud of, Hillaryville is a big part of that." Jones finds something transformative in his memories there and the life he has led since, ultimately claiming and embracing his whole self. The result is vulnerable, personal, touching on Jones's relationship to church life, to his mother, to his queerness, to his worth. "I wish I could tell my younger self 'you don't have to stick to the dreams people have for you,'" says Jones, "'you can dream bigger. You are more than capable, you are more than able. Great replacement for my discontinued Epionce sunblock
Scent: White Tea, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I really hate it when companies discontinue great products, and even though it cost a fortune, I loved the Epionce mineral sun block for faces. When I realized it was gone, I looked at the Coola line because I like their other products. Found this face sunblock for $32 (this could be 1/3 of the Epionce, certainly 1/2) and have used it for the past few weeks playing golf. So far, so good! I'm not noticing any color, certainly no burn. No irritation, and the scent is quite mild, only noticeable when it's first applied (IMO, and I'm pretty sensitive to scents). I really like that Coola has the Hawaii reef-safe designation, which I think is very important for all sunscreens, even when we're not going swimming in the ocean. As a friend pointed out to me once, even if you don't swim in the ocean, you go home and take a shower and all those chemicals wash down the drain and make their way eventually through the system, so might as well just not use them in the first place! Yes, it's more expensive using products like this, but IMO it's worth it. I also wear sun sleeves these days so I don't have to use as much sunscreen when I'm out on the golf course. Editing this to say that this product has avobenzone, which is actually not so great and may be banned in Hawaii by next year. Hmm. Guess I'll keep searching!

It works

I invested in this for its travel size and my needs for a product that would protect my skin and not make it feel super oily. This delivers!!! I used it for a week in Florida with UV up to 11 on some days and didn't face a single issue, even after a Disney day. I was almost in disbelief at how lightweight this product is for it to work properly, but the protection strength is fabulous. I don't burn in the sun, but if I do, its typically along my face where the bridge of my nose is or my upper cheeks. This product basically said, "not today, sun." Bonus, it didnt burn or sting my eyes all day in Disney parks heat, and I didn't need to reapply even though I brought it just in case. Maybe it was the product or the Disney magic, but my skin also didn't look oily or shiny at all in my pictures with the product offering a nice matte finish.

seriously matte-ifying

Don’t judge but back in the day I used to use Avon’s “face perfector” because it REALLY cut down on the shininess of face oil and it also had SPF. It made your face look matte without any other makeup. And I am pleased that this gel is similar. No face grease. It’s not even really a gel—if instantly feels powdery (somehow?) in your hand, thus it’s nongreasy. It leaves your face shine free and protected.

Perfect for a low-maintenance man

I have very fair skin and am a low maintenance kind of guy. My entire skin care routine is washing my face and trying my best to remember to put on sunscreen.
This is the best face sunscreen I have ever used. It literally seems to disappear on my face immediately after applying it. I sometimes doubt I even got it spread evenly because of how quickly it disappears but it has worked just as well as thicker sunscreens I have used in the past. I would bet this would be great for women under their makeup because it wouldn't feel like another layer.
